closer i was wondering if anyone has any last minute advice they want to pass

In spite of the medication for pain, which worked too, I found that one

of the best things to get trough it all, including the discomfort, was

the relief that something was finally being done and the expectation of

better times. In the hospital after the surgery I was glad it was done

and glad to finally be there.

It is OK to have some fear but believe in better things. Stay positive.

Nicola,

I had reservations before my myotomy as well. Everything will work out just

fine. I have to say that God has been really good to me by allowing my to go

through this surgery and enjoy eating a little bit more! I will say a prayer

for you on Tuesday morning.

Hi Nicola

You are having the same op as I did and as many people will tell you it was

the best decsion they made. In my case I have put on that much weight poeple

would never believe I had and still - in thoery - have a problem. Yes it may

be hard for a little while - again in my case seemed like I was cured

overnight almost - was such a relief to be able to swallow and not wait for

the inevitable regurge!

However, we are all different and the surgery is not always straightforwrd

but from what I remember you are young and fit so should have no reason

whatsoever to have any worries at all. We are all human and we do worry to

some extent but just think in weeks or months you will be eating normally

again, you will be able to go to Pizza Hut and not checkout the toilets

first. Just take it steady and let your body adapt again - keep to softish

food just for a while and it will be well worth it.

All the best,

Andy

Hi Nicola,

I had amy surgery 3 months ago.

Just like all the other posters have told you, just think of what's ahead... for

me, it was the best decision I made. The first 24 hours are the worst, but it

gets MUCH better from there. I can eat pretty much anything. I still have to eat

slow and chew well, and eat smaller meals, but, man, it's nice to be able to eat

somewhat normally!

I wish you all the best, and please let us know how you're doing afterwards!

HI Nicola,

My daughter had her myotomy in July 2003 and has not looked back!  She went

down to an unhealthy 5 1/2 - 6 stone weight and is now a bouncing 10 stone!

She has to drink lots of water when she eats but it gave her a new lease of life

- after the operation she was really scared to eat in case it had not worked!

But once she started nothing stopped her - although initially everything was

blended.

But wonderful outcome and has not had to see a doctor since...

Take care

Prayers

Dear Nicola,

This is going to sound very peculiar- look forward to it!

I understand completely that you are nervous. It seems like such a big thing to

go through and to you it is. But the success rate of this surgery is really

good, and the likelihood is that it will transform your life. Achalasia can mess

things up for the most positive of people. It becomes so difficult to socialise

for instance because these occasions so often take place around eating and

drinking.

When you can eat again, you will never take it for granted ever again and will

love the feeling much more than those who have never lost the ability.

It will be worth all the nerves and fear. Just go with the flow.

Best of luck Nicola and I send you blessings.

Love from Ann (Yorkshire) XX
