Guest guest
My daughter is 13 and has Cricopharyngeal achalasia (that's the upper esophageal muscle) most of her life. When she had dilitation done month, the doctor could BARELY get the scop through, and can't believe she was getting solid food through AT ALL! And yet, she was overweight. ~Leah~ MN On Jan 30, 2010, at 7:31 PM, frances colon wrote: > Hello I'm 36 have achalasia since I was 23, Does anyone is > overweight ,, I'm like 80 pounds overweight my Dr can believe it , > Does any one else have the same problem ? > > also does anyone get diarrhea as a side effect of achalasia > > Frances WA > >

Guest guest
OK ,,  thanks for the information, and that way I don't feel that alone  Frances WA From: -Kane <cjdkane@...> Subject: Overweight and Achalasia achalasia Date: Sunday, January 31, 2010, 7:33 AM  I am also about 50 lbs. overweight and have 'A'. I was diagnosed in 2003 and had two dilation's that year which led to an emergency surgery. Now I just eat very slow and drink a lot of water and have very little problems eating now. I am new to this group, but it seems like we are not that unusual from what I have read so far. I don't suffer from diarrhea though.
Guest guest
I'm beyond overweight, I'm morbidly obese. (interestingly enough, I have no comorbidities) The first few years of achalasia, I was living on protein drinks (Slim-Fast, Boost, Ensure) and Cream of Wheat with jelly stirred in. My metabolism is COMPLETELY shot, my thyroid gland pretty much destroyed. My blood pressure is so low that if I weigh less than about 180 pounds (and I'm only 5'2 " !!!), I pass out every time I stand up. My metabolism is so shot that in order for me to lose weight, I have to get below 800-1000 calories a day. Achalasia and obesity are NOT mutually exclusive.
