Far out man!

We all could use a lightheaded conversation considering how things have been for

a lot of us.

Um, I forgot what we were talking about...  :)

So my state just passed a medical marijuana law, and I read a lot on this group

about spasms. Putting two and two together, was wondering if anyone with

achalasia-related spasms has tried this? (Of course, under the supervision of a

doctor and with all the legal clearances...;-)

Fortunately I don't suffer from spasms, but I ask because one of the supposed

benefits of medical marijuana is alleviation of muscle spasms associated with

other neurological conditions such as MS.

My son who is almost 17 just recently confessed to me that HE HAS tried " pot "

during a spasm episode and it worked. Now, did it really... or is this a way for

him to have me say its ok for him to do it???lol

He really does say it helps but...until its passed and he has a script for it

then I of course say no.

If I realllllllllly knew it helped and wasnt just a reason for him to be able to

smoke it, I am all about it if it became legal.

Of course back in my day it wasnt legal and well we wont go there lol

Hey do you have a facebook?

Tonia,

I searched for " marijuana " and " achalasia " and found the following

list of things that can help achalasia patients:

" Various maneuvers appear to aid in the passage of food. These include:

a) a head-back position in the upright position associated with a Valsalva

maneuver; B) drinking carbonated beverages; c) belching; d) drinking

alcoholic or warmed beverages; and e) smoking marijuana. "

Wu, Khalid Aziz, Giles Francis Whalen, 2003

http://tinyurl.com/ycrlwpw is p. 25 of this book:

I don't think medical marijuana is legal in Virginia. But there is a

cannabinoid pill, Cesamet (Nabilone), which is prescribed for cancer

patients during chemotherapy. If a doctor is willing to prescribe it for

, at least one or two pills to try, it might prevent one of those

painful trips to the emergency room.

Back in my careless youth... I smoked pretty regularly when I was a teenager -

not for spasms but for fun - I can remember though it helping with a spasm and

of course, at that time - weight loss was a serious issue for me so the appetite

stimulation was a good thing!! I did eat much more comfortably when I smoked so

that does lend itself to the relaxes spasms theory.

check with the doc - it seems a better option than flexeril. I only took

flexeril one time for a neck spasm and I only took 1/2 a pill - 20 min. later my

eyes were rolling in the back of my head!!

Has tried ativan? I used it for awhile but only during the night, I

believe it's an anti-anxiety and muscle relaxant both.

Of course, I never had the never ending spasms that seems to have.

I hope they find something for him, and soon!!

Hey ! Thanks for talking with me the other night but I hated I had to

rush off when my company arrived. Well have to do it again.

Well I HAD MY DAY OF IT TOO AND IT WAS FOR FUN AS WELL.LOL THat was a longg time

ago though lol

I do hear it helps with the spasms but would the " pill form " give the same

effect I wonder? The actually inhalation would seem to me as more effective but

also illegal. Who knows..it helps cancer patients so it probaly would help. I

think we will try the meds we have now but I will talk to the dr about it. Thats

gonna be a weird conversation : )

Kinda like the " lets try Viagra " for the spasms.Ummmm I dont need a 16 year old

on Viagra! lol We left that conversation quickly!

Thanks the following-

" for a head-back position in the upright position associated with a Valsalva

maneuver "

This is great, have been doing this for last few years. I found out that

standing up eating cerial etc, then I put my hands on the top of the head, lean

my head back, breath deeply. This is how I can handle Achalasia, it works for

me. No operation yet! Found the following.

Pot is legal in California, may try it if I ever get bad spasms, how ever have

NEVER smoked.
