Guest guest
>So, any ideas why he would be hoarse >without a sore throat throat, or what >could possibly be wrong with an 8 year >olds vocal chords? Similar thing happened to my middle son when he was about 3 or 4 years old.... got a cold and got hoarse but then stayed hoarse for months.... saw an ENT who " scoped " him (laryngoscope - through the nose and to the larynx) and took pictures.... basically his vocal chords and lower throat were super red and inflamed and she was very disturbed about it.... BUT they never did anything further or followed up.... I personally concluded he was refluxing real bad.... as he used to sleep on his stomach with his rump up in the air.... Don't know what else it could be or why they are so urgent about it... sorry..... Hope this helps Shelby :-)
Guest guest
Alot of times allergies can play a big part in hoarse voice or a sore throat, in which the vocal cords can be damaged after a long duration,,causing the person to loose his or her voice,, I know this because I have this problem--lol- and can also be symptoms of other issues.. Guest guest
Philip, your MD may be right, but I experienced a similar problem which wound up costing me my tonsils...which in turn put me into the ICU for 5 days as my body reacts horribly to surgery, yet I don't know why. If you can't get any answers, go and find yourself a good ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Dr. and get a 2nd opinion. Guest guest
Hello everybody, I have achalasie and had 2001 two operations (myotomy, in the first one the muscle wasn't cut completely). In general I can eat without problems as long as I avoid dry food and drink a lot with my meals (without gas!). However, very often I have a soar throat and my voice is hoarse, weak and without life and I think I speak with much to much air. Is this maybe connected to achalasie, e.g. due to aspiration? Does anyone else here has a similar problem, or should I look for an alternative cause? Thanks, Lars.
Guest guest
If you've been aspirating, then your vocal folds are probably inflamed. Sometimes when there's inflamation they don't seal all the way, leaving an airleak, which will make your voice sound " breathy " and hoarse. Do you clear your throat a lot? If so, this can cause nodules (kind of like a callaous) on your vocal folds, again causing them to not seal properly, causing an air leak. ~Leah~ On Jan 17, 2010, at 2:57 AM, Lars wrote: > Hello everybody, > > I have achalasie and had 2001 two operations (myotomy, in the first > one the muscle wasn't cut completely). Guest guest
Thank you for your answer Leah, Directly after meals, I have often the feeling that a bitwent into the windpipe. Then I clear my throat a lot. Otherwise not so much. However, can something be done, in case that I have nodules? What helps with inflammations Lars. > > > Hello everybody, > > > > I have achalasie and had 2001 two operations (myotomy, in the first > > one the muscle wasn't cut completely). Guest guest
Is there a chance that acid is getting out of your stomach? A hoarse voice and constant clearing of the throat are classic symptoms of acid reflux. You can have reflux without feeling any heart burn. > > Hello everybody, > > I have achalasie and had 2001 two operations (myotomy, in the first one the muscle wasn't cut completely). Guest guest
Hello Maureen, that's a very good question. How can I test if there is acid coming out of my stomach? Best and thanks, Lars. > > > > Hello everybody, > > > > I have achalasie and had 2001 two operations (myotomy, in the first one the muscle wasn't cut completely). Guest guest
A 24 hour PH test will determine acid levels in the oesophagus, Lars.
