Guest guest
Dear Femi, Welcome to the Group. We are here to understand and support you. No-one else can really know what achalasia is like except for those who live it every day. I feel your distress, anger and confusion. If you can come to terms with understanding that this condition can take a long time to diagnose, simply because it is rare, you will find a great degree of peace. Most GPs for a start, will never even have heard of it. They are experts in acid reflux, stomach ulcers etc. because they have seen so much of it. You will probably be the only patient in your GPs practice with this. You are correct in believing the " no cause, no cure " . Most of us have struggled with needing to know the cause and all have our theories, but up to now, it is unknown. Also, there is no cure as such, but there are some excellent FIXES, the best of which, in my opinion, is the myotomy surgery, which can transform your life. I speak from personal experience. We have all tried our alternative approaches and little tricks (running up and down the stairs, etc) but most of us would admit that they are just coping mechanisms. I beg you to put away all thoughts of suicide. This does not warrant such thoughts. There is medical help for you out there, and emotional help and a lot of knowledge to share within this Group. So summon your inner strength and know that you can deal with this. All the best from Ann (Northern England).
