Guest guest
Hi! Just wanted to update everyone on my saga - hope its ok... Went to see MR Maynard yesterday. He scoped me 3 weeks ago when I had my transfusion and said my anaemia was being caused by ulcers in my 'E'. Yesterday he told me that things did not look good at all. The lower part of the 'E' had several ulcers and lesions that were very bad and bleeding. He wants to do another endoscopy in 3 weeks time. He told me that if things were the same, he would insist on performing an esophagectomy in the new year because things were so bad. He said that there was a large entrance into my stomach and that technically the new operation was a success. However for some reason the clinical results have not been so good. Am still getting stuck and having to regurgitate food especially at night. he said my achalsia was end stage and that my 'E' was about 8 cm in diameter. He thought that acid reflux might be causing the damage and am on 80mg of omeprazole a day. Will be having a blood test next week to see what my haemoglobin level is and if it is Ok will be trying to go back to work as I am running out of sick leave. Mr Maynard had a medical student with him and described me as one of his most stoic patients. Thats all very well but part of me wants to rant and rage as I am fed up of my life revolving around my health. Why won't anything work?
