Guest guest
Myah too almost drowned with the avent bottles. I think they flow too fast. We went to the NUK (funny shaped) nipples-small sized. She did fine on those; they have a smaller, different shape which I feel makes it easier to feel and detect for our kids. We did sit her upright on our one leg and hold her head and cheeks with one hand and the bottle with the other. Kinda like feeding a goat! Haha It seemed to help breathing, which helped eating. As a side note, Myah quit her bottle on her own at 5 months after we introduced the cup and baby food-I think because it was just too much work. As the others have said, she is 3 now and eats all things and all textures-more than I do! Good luck! Let us know if we can help with anything else. , mom to Myah 3.5 and her little sister due in 22 days! Andy Okay, I have my 1st question to ask! Little history.....Andy (6week old DS son) is having issues with eating. We have consulted a speech therapist, but will not be able to get in for another week. She did tell us to try the playtex nurser instead of the avent bottles and see if it helps. Andy is gagging, choking, and spilling alot of his formula while eating. He sounds very loud while eating as well. He also progressively gets more and more frustrated throughout the day with eating. It seems he is still hungry, but doesn't want the bottle, so he gets upset. He does seem to do better following a good nap. Both bottles end with this result, one is not better than the other. I have also tried using my fingers to give chin support and hold both cheeks inward toward the nipple. This sometimes helps, sometimes not. Although it always help with the spilling of formula. I also contacted his pediatrician.....he felt maybe reflux. We are now trying nutramigen instead of similac advance. I have only tried for 2 feedings...but seem to get no improvement. Dr. said if not better within 2 days, he will try zantac. (for those concerned, we breastfed for 2 weeks, mainly pumping due to oral skills, but milk never arrived larger than 1/2 ounce. (stress!)). ANY advice is highly appreciated!! I want Andy to eat happily and not be mad!! I hate that he cries because of this!! Thanks, Click reply to all for messages to go to the list. One thing that really helped was to use a nipple that is a bit stiffer. Some are very soft and don't give any pressure on the tongue. We also would put the bottle in his mouth. He would suck three or four times and then we would remove it. When we put it in we would give a bit of downward pressure on his tongue to help him get a rhythm going. BTW, be sure the speech therapist has experience with Sara Rosenfeld- techniques. They made a big difference for our son. Karyn

Guest guest
I know you've been getting lots of advice, but I just wanted to let you know that I vaguely remember having the same problems with . I don't remember the solutions, but I do remember that the frustration made ME need to sit down (or stand up) and cry with frustration. I'm just another person to, hopefully, assure you that YOU WILL GET THROUGH! Our is 11yrs old now, and healthy and well-fed. Those feeding problems back in the first weeks/months have not been permanent. With regards (another one) in Sydney, Australia - wife of Tony, mum of (13yrs this weekend - oh, and we've just discovered she's got a " boyfriend " ); (11yrs with DS - thankfully no boyfriend (that we know of) yet!); and (9yrs - and no worries whatsoever - yet!). Guest guest
Hi, You can purchase a Haberman feeder from anyplace that sells Medela (breastfeeding pump supplies) products. Run around $24.00. Kelli -- Re: Andy There are also special bottles for babies with feeding issues......I wish I d known about them when Mav was little. One is Dr. Brown's. Guest guest
Dear Andy, If I remember correctly, you are now within days of your big event, your wedding. I would like to wish you the very best and hope that you have a happy day. In particular I wish for you a day when you can eat comfortably, because I know how much joy that that will bring to you. You have been through so much sadness and difficulty and now you are getting the good times that you deserve. Lots of love, Andy, to you and your fiancee, from Ann
