Guest guest
Dear everyone, I have been a bit behind in reading my mail and I am really upset to hear that Andy has passed away. I haven't been able to stop crying. I guess being a young cancer sufferer myself, this has really got to me. He was such a sweet person. It is such a crappy way to die! Too slow and painful. Oh now I'm sobbing! I'd better go! Take care everyone! Love Camilla

Guest guest
I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Andy - but I think it hit me that my name could be in a letter like that soon. It's an uncomfortable and sad feeling. All my feelings are so mixed up right now. I wish the best to his family. janalise At 03:11 PM 4/12/00 +1000, you wrote: Dear everyone, I have been a bit behind in reading my mail and I am really upset to hear that Andy has passed away. I am researching and practicing with the workouts. I wish I could start but hte vacation hinders the 12 weeks. I belive in doing the whole thing properly. Guest guest
Nah, I'm not interested in the challenge. But I'll likely tweak the BFL eating plan so it's more like the Zone. I'm currently researching healthy fats and low-glycemic carbs. (A lot of people think the Zone diet is " high-protein / low-carb, " but it's actually 40:30:30 for carbs:protein:fat.) Guest guest
Hey Andy, Good for you for doing your research! My suggestion would be not to worry about your vacation in March, and the effect it will have! Start BFL TODAY! RIGHT NOW! I promise that if you do, and you are disciplined, you are going to enjoy that vacation even more, feel better about yourself and have some results to show for it. I bought the book in mid October, but decided to " wait " until after the holidays. The truth is, I wanted to have my cake and eat it, too! I walked into my gym on Oct. 29th, with the book and a workout plan in hand, but I was not going to officially " start " the challenge. This was my way of not making a true commitment to myself. I looked at the bench press and decided to make a commitment to go for it. If I could make it through the holidays, I would truly be " set for life " with Body For Life. It was a true commitment and I am so proud of myself. On November 17th (3 weeks later), I received several compliments from other parents at my children's Fall festival because they could see the results. I am so thrilled now that I didn't wait, that I made the commitment and that I felt great all through the holidays in all of my fun holiday clothes. Don't wait! Start today and enjoy that vacation even more. Even if you take a week off in the middle of your challenge to enjoy your vacation, that still makes you a winner! Okay, just my two cents! Good luck with whatever you do! <Well, I'm not " whole-hogging " it till after my March vacation when I can then do the full 12 weeks non-stop. RIGHT NOW! Thanks, Jackie. I pretty much have, insofar as the workout regimen goes. I'm just experimenting with the eating plan. Yeah, yeah, I know some people are gonna say " Just stick with the plan, " but everybody's different and there's always room for individualized tweaking. Take the carb thing, for instance. I probably won't eat all the carbs on Bill's list cuz I'm gonna concentrate on low-glycemics. I'll probably eat more than 20% fat too (albeit not saturated fat). My ratio will likely be close to 33:33:33. > I bought the book in mid October, but decided to > " wait " until after the holidays. The truth is, > I wanted to have my cake and eat it, too! I found a fat-free chocolate cake recipe. Want it? :-) > I walked into my gym on Oct. 29th, with the book > and a workout plan in hand, but I was not going to > officially " start " the challenge. You know, I haven't taken the book with me to the gym cuz I guess I was kinda self-conscious about it. But I'm going to photocopy some of the workout photos and instructions to put into my BFL loose-leaf binder, and take that with me so that I can start getting into free weights and not over-rely on machines as I've been doing. (At first I was pretty self-conscious about going to the gym *at all*, but I've gotten over that.) > On November 17th (3 weeks later), I received several > compliments from other parents at my children's Fall > festival because they could see the results. My understanding was that it's simply a healthy way of eating. What was your goal and how far did you get? Thanks, Andy

Guest guest
What, you mean Jarel's comments? Well, too late not to take them personally, but at least I apologized. :-) Faigin's plan isn't a " tweak, " however. He's just presenting a lifetime eating plan for, as his book's title says, enhancing your hormone levels for optimal fat-burning and muscle-building. It's not that Faigin's plan is difficult, it's just that you eat different things on different days. And, after all, if the BFL plan was as simple as the book suggests, there wouldn't be so many questions asked about it on this list, nor would Dr. Hussman have written his long essay on the subject, including how to tweak it. :-) Cheers, Andy > In a message dated 2/26/01 9:46:28 AM Eastern Standard Time, > neo-reality@h... writes: > > << Faigin's major draw, to me, is his concept of carb-cycling and how > one can manipulate their hormone levels, something Bill doesn't go > into. >> > > I think that one of the main reasons that Bill doesnt go into carb cycling > and such is that for the majority of the population, that is NOT something > that they could do " for life " . that is closer to contest dieting (ie. > bodybuilding contests) and Bill was trying to mainstream his program. Guest guest
Chiming in a bit late on this topic but anyway...my thoughts are that it's fine to post websites and researched info on these message boards. Some people like it and some don't. However, if people want addittional info on subjects outside BFL, I feel they should contact the poster privately and not thru these boards. With over 100 messages a day, it is time-consuming and counter to the goal of our group to engage in arguments and debate outside the general desire to support each other as we reach for our individual goals on the Body for Life Program. Guest guest
Hi, This sounds alot like Maveirck. Does Andy have any heart problems? What finally worked for us was to use what are called " heart nipples " which we got from PED ICU when he was in the hosp one time. I'm not sure if they make them any more but you might want to try preemie nipples..softer and smaller. I use those with alot of my foster babies who have issues. And, you are probably already doing this but you should prestimulate his mouth before each feeding. Using a dry washclothe rub all around his lips, cheeks and chin in a rapid (but non abrasive) manner, just to wake up those senses. AND, flick his lips with your fingers......softly but firmly. Hope this helps. And by the way....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Guest guest
I can't answer questions about reflux, however fed better with the flat style nipples than she did with round shaped nipples. It has been so long I can't remember the name of them, I think they were called orthodontic nipples. She did much better with these. Sharon H. Mom to , (12, DS) and , (9) South Carolina Andy Okay, I have my 1st question to ask! Little history.....Andy (6week old DS son) is having issues with eating. We have consulted a speech therapist, but will not be able to get in for another week. She did tell us to try the playtex nurser instead of the avent bottles and see if it helps. Andy is gagging, choking, and spilling alot of his formula while eating. He sounds very loud while eating as well. He also progressively gets more and more frustrated throughout the day with eating. It seems he is still hungry, but doesn't want the bottle, so he gets upset. He does seem to do better following a good nap. Both bottles end with this result, one is not better than the other. I have also tried using my fingers to give chin support and hold both cheeks inward toward the nipple. This sometimes helps, sometimes not. Although it always help with the spilling of formula. I also contacted his pediatrician.....he felt maybe reflux. We are now trying nutramigen instead of similac advance. I have only tried for 2 feedings...but seem to get no improvement. Dr. said if not better within 2 days, he will try zantac. (for those concerned, we breastfed for 2 weeks, mainly pumping due to oral skills, but milk never arrived larger than 1/2 ounce. (stress!)). ANY advice is highly appreciated!! I want Andy to eat happily and not be mad!! I hate that he cries because of this!! Thanks, Click reply to all for messages to go to the list. Guest guest
Noah was a terrible feeder as an infant...the good news is in a few years, Andy will be chowing down four pieces of pizza for dinner(like Noah just did!) We always ended up with more milk on the burp rag than in his mouth too...the advice from the therapist was to hold his lips around the nipple just like you are doing. We were also given a container of a product called Thick-it. This gave the breastmilk a little thicker consistency. Sometimes the thin liquid just goes down too fast for them to swallow before it gags them. I think you can get Thick-it at the pharmacy. Of course you should check with your Ped with any questions. Good luck! Karla in Texas - mom to 12 and Noah 9ds Andy Okay, I have my 1st question to ask! Little history.....Andy (6week old DS son) is having issues with eating.
