Ooooooh we get to talk about food!!

First thing-- Women's One a Day (has lots of Calcium)

Breakfast-- Extreme Sausage sandwich from Jack in the Box (sub

croissant cus there are fewer carbs and it tastes better) Most of a

Hashbrown and Ice tea

Lunch-- Double Cheesburger from Jacks (I love that place) Pickles

only-- no bun..plus more Ice tea

Dinner-- About 10 oz Roast Beef 1/4c Green Beans 1/4c Mashed

Potatoes and lots of gravy.

Snack another Vitimin and a snickers crunch (I just discovered them

and BOY are they good)

Plus probably close to a gallon of weak tea with a bit of lemonaide

tossed mixed in.. This was a hungry day. Usually I'd have either

breakfast or lunch-- not both.

Close to a year out I've lost about 120lbs with another 40 to go.

Happy Eating

Just wanted peoples help on things to eat as i am running out of ideas. i eat

soup and mashed potato and veg most days but am really bored with this. any

alternatives to try and get something that tastes good and is good for me?

I would make stuff like baked spaghetti, stuffed shells and mush it up for my

son. Any kind of casseroles are good and easy to go down cause they are soft.

Squash casserole, chicken casseroles, pot pie etc.. JUsh mush it up : ) Dont

know your situation, but this is what we did weeks after surgery when he could

start with more foods.

Beware cause some people cant eat rice and pastas as it is hard for them. Waht

have you had done or are you just suffering with it going down in general?

Havent had any surgery yet, am waiting for information on this at my next

consultation in a week or so.

At the minute all i am eating is soup and mash potato. I cant eat pasta or rice

or any meat. I need to eat thing with the same consistancy as mash and really

soft, mushy things. But i am running out of ideas. i could try mushing up the

pasta i guess and see how that goes down. thanks for the tips :)

You could always go out to get a peanut butter whey protein smoothie at tropical

smoothie cafe...if they have one in your area.  I think they are about 2000

calories.  I could never finish it in one sitting. - JQ

Pre-myotomy, my goal was to do anything that would get calories/protein into my

body - I lost 25% of my body weight in less than 6 months.

I drank lots of Ensure, ice cream/shakes, cashews, sport drinks (Gatorade, etc.)

and water. I'm not sure how much of it actually stayed down, but I at least

enjoyed the taste for the moment. Other folks have had success with fizzy

drinks, either by themselves, or to help wash things down.

Anything you can get to stay down is good, and the more nutrition the better.

I'd advise trying different things, especially things you like. You'll naturally

gravitate to what works.

Hi Lee, thanks for the reply. I try and eat things like this too, i have never

had a sweet tooth and i find if i eat too much yoghurt or ice cream i have bad

migranes in the evening. i have been eating weetabix which seems to surpress

the hunger pains a little longer. i feel so tired most days. i lost 2 stone

within a few months of having achalasia and then a further 1/2 stone recently as

things are gradually getting more difficult to eat. i think i may try protein

shakes inbetween what i can eat.

I am really not good with computers but I have posted many blender recipes for

soups, smoothies etc. made in blender with multiple yummy ingredients- fruits

and vegetables of all kinds etc. I was really satisified, the tastes were

delicious and everything was healthy and easy to get down after surgery. If

someone could direct you to previous posts of mine that is good but if not, go

to and Nobles and browse the " smoothie " books. Lots of good stuff!!

all my best

This may not work for you. It depends on how bad your LES is. It is

going to sound crazy but I have a minced shrimp white pizza (no tomato

sauce) that is easy to get down. First, I don't use a normal pizza type

of crust. I use a tortilla. I oil both sides. You can use oil, butter or

even pesto. I use olive oil on the bottom and pesto as the sauce on top.

Bread is often hard to swallow, but the oiled tortilla is different and

tends to slide down easy. You can mince some onion and garlic for on top

and then minced shrimp. If you want you can precook the garlic and

shrimp like a shrimp scampi. On that I place my cheese and then some

chopped basil and/or spinach. Chop them up fine. You can also finely

chop black or even green olives to add to it if you like. I put it in a

preheated 350 degree 12 inch toaster oven until the cheese is melted and

the outer edges of the tortilla are brown, about 5 min.. With that thin

tortilla it cooks very fast. With so little bread and all that oil,

pesto and cheese this is one slippery snack. If you need to mince things

very fine you can throw all the toppings, other than the cheese, in a

blender, which would help to get all the toping oiled from the pesto.

If this pizza works for anyone, or it inspires other ideas, I would love

to hear it.

I am not sure about giving advice about things to eat. There was a time that

mashed potatoes was a hard thing for me. Seems everyone is different. One thing

that always has helped me is drinking a hot liquid while and after eating. I

think I keep the Alpine spiced cider manufacturer in business by myself. It

seems to work better than anything else for me. I think the bitterness of

coffee or tea hinders its effectiveness. Maybe you would be able to eat a wider

variety of stuff.

Seems lots of folks mentioning problems with bread, chicken, rice, some other

meats too. Me too, all those. My limited time here I have not yet seen those

advocating sippin cocacola / pepsicola with meals. For me it works most times,

at least for now, those little bubbles seems to stimulate the E and help tell

(fool it?)it to swallow. In fact get similar effect with other gassy carbonated

drinks ... sparkling water, bottled beer (Bud best). Regret that the foamy head

on a UK beer is still a no no. :)

Thought I'd bump this up, as it sounds *fantastic*!!

Since I'm pretty much full blender right now, thought I'd add something I not

only CAN eat, but LOVE, even in its blenderized form. A blenderized salad!

Need to mention first that " liquefying " most things, especially fresh veggies

and shrimp turns them into mush, which you DON'T want. If you put a couple of

cups of cold water in the blender first, add chunked (cucumbers, lettuce,

carrots, cabbage, uncooked broccoli, shrimp, etc) give it a few *pulses* and

then drain in a strainer: you get an extremely finely *minced* food. . . .

Something that if you drink enough liquid will go easily down a 2mm opening,

which some of us have.

Using those instructions: blender-mince a cup of chunked cucumber, drain (I use

the water in my ever-going crock pot for stock), and one cup of frozen salad

shrimp, thawed, blender-minced. Mix the two together, add a good dollop of sour

cream, salt, garlic, white pepper and a LOT of dill. Wonderful. If you want a

cold summer soup, simply add a cup of buttermilk to the above.

Bon appetite!
