Laurie,

Don't be surprised. Because of the differences between the DS and most

other WLS procedures, we can eat what are fairly normal meals one we get

beyond 6 months to a year post-op. We may not be eating as much as we did

pre-op, but we can still go to a resturant and order off the menu. I

usually try to stick to the " senior " menu because of the smaller portions,

and even then I usually can't finish the full meal. However, we still have

to watch WHAT we eat, protein first, little or no sugars, minimal carbs,

etc. As Dr. K. says, it is possible to " overeat " the procedure and end up

gaining weight again.

So.. General idea of what I have at 9 months post-op..

Yesterday..

Breakfast: Protein shake (12 oz) with 20 gr protein. (4AM)

Mid-morning: (Lunch at work? around 9AM) Turkey sandwich (2 slices Iron

Kids bread and four slices deli turkey.) 25 gr protein.

Lunch: Protein shake (1PM) 20 gr protein.

Dinner: Shredded beef burrito, refried beans (8pm) About 35 gr protein.

Large burrito which I finnished but left over half the beans. I also had a

few tortilla chips and salsa.

Of course, I had a lot of water and/or iced tea during the day as well as

my calcium and vitamins.

One thing to keep in mind.. I work wierd hours. I usually start work

around 5AM and finish about 1PM. Then I take a college course in the

evenings (5 to 7PM), so I don't eat on a " typical " schedule. The above was

a work/school day.

If I'm on days off and follow a normal meal schedule, I'll usually drop

either the sandwich ot the second protein shake.

Hope that answers your questions.

Ok,

It may not be pretty, but here it is...my yesterday menu....

2 eggs, over easy with leftover honey baked ham --about enough to give

one layer of ham on a sandwhich-I don't weigh.

12 oz whole milk

way, way, way too much of my " birthday cake " which is really like a pie-a

layer of nuts as the crust, then cream cheeze/cool whip/powdered sugar

layer, then a pudding layer, then a cool whip layer. I probably had, over

the course of the day, about 3 3X3 inch pieces.

Another 12 oz milk

A Snickers with almond bar.

dinner: " meat in a pot " -beef in the slow cooker with a can of cream of

mushroom soup and a packet of lipton onion soup mix, cooked until the

meat falls apart. I had probably close to a cup of this stuff. And a

glass of milk.

A homemade banana split-

OK< way, way, way too much sugar. I need to seriously cut back on that

stuff!

OK, what I ate two days ago: .

1 Refrigerator (you think I jest, don’t you!)

4 eggs scrambled and dripping with cheese

1 bacon cheese hot dog

1 glazed doughnut

6-8 oz steak

1 head of cauliflower, steamed and dipped in Cole slaw dressing (mayo,

splena, lemon juice, and milk)

4 Chimichanga (burrito thingy with just cheese and shredded beef)

½ a bag of pork rinds

3 flat diet cherry Pepsi

And the funny thing is, I wasn’t hungry yesterday. Go figure.

Yesterday:

1 bacon cheese hot dog

1 head of cauliflower, steamed and dipped in Cole slaw dressing (see above)

½ a head of cabbage steamed

6-8 oz pork – fried in a no stick skillet

Today, so far

1 head of cauliflower, steamed (see above and above)

1 bacon cheese hot dog (is there a pattern this week?

1 Pay Day

½ bad of pork rinds

1 cup hot chocolate

2 diet cherry Pepsi (not flat this time.

Now, THAT must make you feel much better!

What do you eat?

Hey everybody...

I was wondering if some (or all) of you post-ops could post for me

what you eat in a day...like, for example...yesterday's menu or

today's menu. I am trying to see what a normal DSer eats in a

typical day. I don't see anything in the binder that tells how many

calories you should have each day. I have seen the food choices of a

couple DS friends on another list and frankly, it mortified me!! It

sounded like they can eat as much as I use to eat before any type

wls. So, if anyone would be so kind as to share this with me, I'd

surely appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hugs,

Laurie

Today I ate a slice of sprouted grain complete protein toast with

cheese and a slice of Canadian bacon, Vast amounts of coffee with

half and half and cinnimon/vanilla creamer.

Adkins Advantage bar for snacks, twice.

Adkins Advantage shake for lunch.

Lots of chips and dip, a margarita, and steak fajitas for supper.

No tortillas.

I will probably have another protein bar for bedtime snack because I

feel hungry again and I need extra protein due to poor eating

(amounts) the past few days.

Subway has jumped on the low-carb bandwagon. You can now get just about

any of their regular subs in a wheat tortilla instead of on bread. They

call these their " Atkins Wrap " sandwiches, but some locations are also

charging an extra 50 cents or more to make the change.

I tried one with the tuna salad. It was OK, but you can make the same

thing at home for a lot less than the $5.00 the local shop charged me for

it.

Hi Laurie..

I don't post here often, but figured I would chime in with what I eat

and I am just about 2 and a half years post DS.

1/22

Breakfast:

Cup of coffee at 4:30AM

Scrambled eggs (maybe 3 eggs) with ham, onions, peppers, mushrooms

and cheese with salsa at about 8AM

For my water, I drink 'very berry' flavor Crystal Geyser, 42.3 oz of

sparkling water during the day and then another 42.3 oz when I get

home at night.

Lunch: (had lunch at Arterra in Del Mar - NOT typical for me)

4 pieces of shrimp layered on cucumber with wassabi dressing and

slice avocado

Steak and avocado salad with onion rings and grilled flat bread with

melted Brie on top. I would say I ate about 5 pieces of steak (the

size of 2.5 by 2.5 inches - medium rare), maybe 10 good-sized bites

of salad, 2 small, very thin onion rings and about 4 bites of the

flat bread.

1 mango iced tea

Dinner:

About a cup and a half of pasta bake with cheese on top. The pasta I

use is low carb, high protein. It is the BEST!

1 diet Cherry Coke

Snack:

Peanut butter Tofutti Cutie

And here is a typical day when I am not eating out for work:

Breakfast:

Bowl of cereal, most time it is Peanut Butter Puffins (I'd say

about

a cup and a half, depending on my mood with soy milk)

Cup of coffee or tea

OR

1 1/2 cup of granola with soy yogurt mixed together

1 med/lrg banana

Snack at work:

Protein bar

Lunch:

2-3 scoops of tuna salad with 2-3 slices tomato

Bag of chips (baked usually or if I am feeling really sassy, Doritos:-

))

1 medium diet Pepsi or can of diet Coke

Dinner:

Generous portion of roast beef/pork/chicken with carrots or some salad

or another non-gaseous type veggie.

Snack:

Tofutti Cutie

There are times when I do not eat hardly anything at all cause I do

not want to be bothered with taking the time to eat and other days

where I am a bottomless pit and think that I will gain it all back

plus some due to the amounts of food I intake. One thing I do not do

is drink full sugar sodas or drink juices of any type. If I have to

drink juice, it is half juice and half water. Not only is the sugar

content forefront in my mind, but also I lose interest in them and

end up wasting it anyway, so why bother? I do notice that I crave

protein a lot. I always have at least 2 protein bars on me at any

given time. I eat the Balance bars and they are delicious. I have

yet to find a powdered protein powder that is lactose free. As soon

as I do, I will most likely supplement 2-3 times per week at

breakfast with that and then have a bigger snack at work, such as

scrambled eggs.

Best of luck..

Liz P.

Ellen,

Thanks. You just explained why I didn't feel so hot after eating my one

wrap from Subway. I never would have suspected there was any sesame in the

sandwich or I would have avoided it. I am alergic to sesame and even the

smallest amount gives me an upset stomach and " bathroom issues. " In

slightly larger amounts, it sets off my hay fever and asthma.

So.. While they sound good, I'll be avoiding them in the future.
