CONGRATS! Glad you are doing well on the Kineret. I recently learned

I can't live without it either. I've been on it for 2 1/2 years and

every now and then I'll get an itchy red welt or a bruise from the

injection, but it's only bothersome for half an hour or so before

going down. Worth it for what the shots give me.

Glad you're back with us.

Hello Jeff, where in AZ. Do you live? I am glad that you are getting some

relief. I grew up in Tucson so if you need any help with a doctor I can help

out if you are in that city. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

....in Georgia now.

- Finally some relief

Hello,

I am from Arizona and my name is Jeff. I have been hanging around the group for

about 6 months reading all of your very helpful posts but have never posted

myself. After more doctors then I can count and 3 years of alot of misery I was

finally diagnosed with Achalasia last month and had a dialation last week.

Before the dialation I was reduced to a diet of about 3 ensures a day and maybe

a few hundred calories of food a day if I was lucky but in the last week I have

been able to finally eat food again. Still experiencing swallowing issues but

just being able to enjoy the simple pleasure of drinking a glass of water

without extreme discomfort has been a great relief.

For years I struggled to find a doctor that could tell me what was going on with

me and for a while I really thought I was going crazy. One day I was searching

the iternet and can across this group. Through this group I learned about

Achalasia and of the Cleveland Clinic. It was a long trip to Cleveland from

Phoenix but within one visit I was diagnosed and given treatment options. I was

not mentally ready yet to have the Heller surgery so I went with the dialation

to start until I am more prepared to take the surgical route. I know from

reading alot of your stories that down the road surgery is more then likely in

my future and in my mind I know I should have just gotten it done right away but

I just wasn't ready for it yet. I am sure when\if the dialation stops working I

will have wished I had just done the surgery, but I guess I will cross that

bridge when I come to it. For now I have gotten some relief and after the last

few years that is good enough, at least for now. Anyway, I just wanted to make a

post and say thank you to everyone that makes this group possible......if it

wasn't for the information I found here I would still be in the dark about my

condition and still suffering greatly alone.

Regards to all,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

Welcome to the Group.

I understand your reluctance to consider surgery because I personally faffed

about for 16 years! before I had anything done to treat my achalasia. By that

time I had an oesophagus that was described as a mess. So please don't make my

mistake and neglect yourself until you do irreparable damage. I had the Heller's

3 years ago and now I eat really well, with a good healthy diet, a good healthy

weight and the fun of eating out and joining in with so many social occasions

has come back into my life.

It feels like a miracle.. but it's not. It is down to the skill of the surgeon

and the courage of the patient to do what is best for him in the long run.

Good Luck with your decisions and future. And you are right- you need never be

alone again. I relate to that SO MUCH.

Best Wishes from Ann in England.
