Guest guest
> Hi guys > Well after our waste of time trip to the neuro last week we went to see our local doc and are actually getting some things done woohoo. ****Hurrah, Hurrah, they are doing something!!!! yippee! > Rich is getting ultrasound done on Tues of his thyroid, as has been couple of years since last one, and doc says it is swollen. **It is swollen, yet they say there is nothing wrong with him?? Oops, they fucked up! these are all in our town so that is really neat. **even better!!! That is great! If scan shows anything will be going to see thyroid specialist. > What else trying him on different meds for stomach if no better get another camera down throat to see what happening there. Will get results of scan when next see doc which will be 18th dec. Soo it is good to feel that we are getting somewhere for a change and actually doing something other than seeing stupid neuros who you pay to get a lecture on positive thinking. **Wow why is this GP getting serious all of a sudden, it is about time, but what caused the change?? Sounds like you finally have a Dr on your side! > The doc also said the rheumy we saw suggested injections into painful areas, don't know what with, doc was thinking in Rich's neck. Rich went a funny color *giggles* so will see what happens with this other stuff first. **URGH! Hope that won't be necessary! > Just though I would let ya know seeing as I had some news after seeing a doctor for a change! **I will cross my fingers and toes for you, and eat lots of chocky while thinking of you both! Good luck :-) Love and hugs

Guest guest
Dear Rosemary, Thank you so much for the update on Rich! I went straight to the computer after I woke up this morning (I'm from The Netherlands, Europe, so there's a time difference) to check for news! I am so relieved things went well and he already smiled, it's a good sign. Oh, and about the first updates you sent: they did get through, but sometimes (I don't know why) it only takes a minute for them to appear on the board and sometimes it takes a couple of hours. But no worries, I was glad to read all of the updates you sent and I bet the rest here on the board was as well! Please send Rich my well wishes and tell him I'll keep him in my thoughts like I did these last few days and especially yesterday. Love, Isabella ________________________________ From: rosemary.bogdan <rosemarybogdan@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 4:06:06 AM Subject: Update on Rich I have sent a number of updates that have not gone through. Hope I've solved the problem. If they all go through at once I apologize. I will definitely be repeating myself. Rich's surgery went great. The doctor was pleased He said Rich's blood pressure stayed stable. There was minimal blood loss. He said Rich is very healthy. The surgery took five hours. Within an hour afterwards we saw him in recovery. He gave me a weak thumbs up. When I said, " Is that a thumbs up? " He smiled and nodded yes. The he gestured to his chest and said, " Ouch. " When we left tonight he said his pain was pretty well controlled. He's in a good mood, enjoying his private room. I think I'll try to post this and see if it goes through. Guest guest
Dear Rose,  Thank you for (all) the updates. You made me laugh! As far as repeating yourself goes, if you are sending news like this, you carry on Girl. This is excellent news and what we all hoped to hear at this stage. Many people here are thinking of him and wishing very hard for a successful recovery for Rich. PLEASE let him know how much he is being thought of by his fellow Achalasians (we are a breed to ourselves, you know!).  I know that this is a very difficult time for you too and I wish you a positive and courageous feeling in your heart as you go to visit your Brother. Give him my love.  From Ann in England XX From: rosemary.bogdan <rosemarybogdan@...> Subject: Update on Rich achalasia Date: Wednesday, 25 March, 2009, 3:07 AM I forgot to say that I'm Rich Bailhe's sister :-) (Rich who had the esophagectomy today!) Not sure they're going through so I'm trying it as an email reply. Rich's surgery went very well. He came through great. He's in good spirits and pain is well under control. Hope this goes through. I'll give more details if this works. Rose (Rich's sister)
Guest guest
Hi As an ectomy patient myself I am curious to know if Rich's surgery was minimaly invasive (i:e using small cuts in the skin) or open (i:e Thoracotomy etc) as mine was open and took 10 hours? ________________________________ From: rosemary.bogdan <rosemarybogdan@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 3:07:23 AM Subject: Update on Rich I forgot to say that I'm Rich Bailhe's sister :-) (Rich who had the esophagectomy today!) Guest guest
Hi , Rich's ectomy was not the minimally invasive one. I forget what it was called. Trans hiatal? Something hiatal. He has an incision in his neck that's at least a few inches (near the collarbone) and one in his abdomen between the navel and the breastbone. I think that one is longer. They did not open his chest. Then he also has small incisions where the chest tubes are coming out. Sorry it took me so long to answer your question. Thanks for the support. > > Hi > As an ectomy patient myself I am curious to know if Rich's surgery was minimaly invasive (i:e using small cuts in the skin) or open (i:e Thoracotomy etc) as mine was open and took 10 hours? > > > > > > ________________________________ > From: rosemary.bogdan <rosemarybogdan@...> > achalasia > Sent: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 3:07:23 AM > Subject: Update on Rich > > > I forgot to say that I'm Rich Bailhe's sister :-) (Rich who had the esophagectomy today!) > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for replying to my post. Yes it sounds as if Rich had the Transhiatal ectomy. Mine was The Ivor ectomy with the gastric pull-up. So good to read that Rich is doing well. Best wishes to him and to you for your support to him. from the UK ________________________________ From: rosemary.bogdan <rosemarybogdan@...> achalasia Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 5:12:17 PM Subject: Re: Update on Rich Hi , Rich's ectomy was not the minimally invasive one.
