Thanks .

The NHS is free therefore you cannot pick and choose and waiting

lists are long. You can ask for a 2nd opinion and they bring in

another NHS consultant for that but we may wait weeks for an

appointment. I already know he needs surgery either myotomy or -

ectomy. I want to hear their rationale for whichever they decide to

do before I know if I even need a 2nd opinion, because so far I've

had no info from nursing (they don't know either) or medical staff.

I've no idea how many otomies or ectomies he or she has done.

Congratulations on getting rid of the Ghastly A.

Hi

Have just read your posts. A Mr Rivhard D. Page of the Liverpool Heart and Chest

Hospital did my ectomy in October 2004. If I had to have it done again I would

go to this surgeon who has performed over 1000 Oesophagectomies for cancer and

performes about 5 every year for Achalasia patients alone. He is a well

respected surgeon in his field and will consider patients from outside his

catchment area in otherwords anywhere from the UK. He speaks to you and not down

his nose to you if you know what I mean. Contact him at the Liverpool Heart and

Chest Hospital, Drive, Liverpool L14 3PE. Phone no:- 0151 228 1616. If

the Liverpool hospital is too far away from you consider Mr Mike from

your area of Scotland. I am not sure of the hospital that he works at but you

can find his details if you Google his name. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Now you probably won't find a surgeon who performs them on A patients

regularly but alot of surgical oncologists do them for cancer of the E.

This is not saying that an experienced surgeon could not do a myo and

have it work well but the key to everything is holding out for the most

experienced doctor you can find. It will be all the difference in the

world in the long run.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Dear ,

I am having a T.H.E [esophagectomy with anastomosis in the neck] on

April 16th. My surgeon will be Nick Maynard at the Radcliffe

Hospital

in Oxford. He has done 500 of these, and is confident I shall be

fine. I would be very sceptical about being operated on by somebody

lacking in experience in this complicated operation.

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim

Good Luck for your surgery on April 16th. Hope all goes well. I come from a

small town within the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. Beautifull

countryside. My Oesophagectomy (with neck anastomosis)was done in the Liverpool

Heart and Chest Hospital in Liverpool by Mr D. Page in October 2004 so I

am an old hand in the group now and if i can answer any of your many to come

questions then I will do my very best to answer them for you.
