Guest guest
sandra- you may need to culture you sputum. pc doc can do this. color sounds like some type of infectious process. do you have a lot of trouble with sinus drainage?...angela Upper Chest area burning and spitting up mucus (phlegm) after Esophagectomy My esophagectomy was 25 February. I have always had a little bit of trouble since the esophagectomy with a burning in my upper chest, especially at night followed by lots of mucus (phlegm) coming up that is yellowish/green in color. When I last saw Dr. Rice on 27 October, he told me to start back on the Aciphex, which I did. This past weekend, the burning became worse and more and more mucus is coming up from my upper chest area.almost like bronchitis. I have not been to work in two days as I feel really awful. Do you think this is related to the esophagectomy or something else? I've just sent an email to Dr. Rice. This has me kind of scared. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear about these problems. I don't know whether or not it is -ectomy related for sure of course, but I don't recognise anything of what you mention, nor did I hear other -ectomy patients talk about it. I think it's a wise thing you wrote Dr. Rice. Have you seen your family doc on this, so that he can take a probe? How are you doing otherwise, swallowing wise? Everything OK? Are you back to working as much as you did before your -ectomy? Over here things go way too slow. I am in a dip right now. The dilatations every other week take their toll. The price I need to pay to get better is very high. December 9th I am scheduled for a talk with a specialist concerning how we will proceed. Something needs to be done, as this is way too tiring. My blood levels have gone down again too. B12 is more than fine, but ferritine is way too low, which of course gets me tired as well. Probably malnutrition, though I do still feed tube (but perhaps not as much as I should). I will discuss with the specialist what's going on exactly. I will also ask why I keep feeling hungry, no matter what I eat. Even on good days I never am satisfied, I keep feeling hungry, hungry, hungry. I do eat enough, the dumping issues appear with every bite I had too much, so that's enough sign that I did fill the stomach as much as possible, eh? Do you ever feel full again? Guest guest
Sounds like you have a chest infection which can be common after an ectomy. I know. I had the ectomy done October 2004 and was reminded that I would be prone to chest infections unless I looked after my health by having the Flu or Pneumonia shot every year. Achalasia patients are more prone than usual to having serious chest infections unless they look after and take proper precautions to guard against infections. This was emphatically told to me by several doctors. ________________________________ From: sandragphipps <sandraphipps@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 9:40:42 PM Subject: Upper Chest area burning and spitting up mucus (phlegm) after Esophagectomy My esophagectomy was 25 February. Guest guest
Hi Isabella, I am so sorry to hear that about what you are having to go through. I always keep you in my prayers. I have not yet heard from Dr. Rice, but went to my family care physician today. She seems to think it is bronchitis and gave me an antibiotic. It will be interesting to hear what Dr. Rice has to say. Please do take care of yourself and keep us posted always. You are a real trooper and I admire you so much. I know if I overeat, I am in constant pain and of course, there is the dumping issue. I keep having to remember, small portions, but sometimes my eyes are much bigger than my stomach. My Ferritine is always low and I do take iron, which, thanksfully, is absorbing much better in my system than before the 'ectomy. I took iron infusions for six weeks and that helped so much with my tiredness. You need to ask your specialist about that. You take care. Guest guest
Thanks so much, . I had my flu shot about a month ago and had my pneumonia shot while in the hospital for my 'ectomy. It does make sense that a person with an 'ectomy would be much more susceptible to chest infection. They told you to get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot each year. I thought you only had to get the pneumonia short every five years. Thanks again, > > Sounds like you have a chest infection which can be common after an ectomy. I know.
