OK - here's my 2 cents. Sometimes I just can't resist.

I had an -ectomy on Jan. 11th of 2008, due to a very rare

complication - I had a 2nd surgery on Jan. 18th of '08. what was

supposed to be a very minor 2nd surgery damn near killed me.

Literally. I went into respiratory distress in recovery, both lungs

collapsed and I spent a very miserable evening in the surgical ICU

with bilateral chest tubes and on a ventilator.

I say this becuase in spite of all of that. I would CHOOSE to do this

all over again. I am not a masochist, nor am I ignorant or

uneducated. I spent many months researching my decision to have the -

ectomy done.

Ironically, had this group existed when I had my myotomy done in

1989, they may have been able to guide me to a more experienced

surgeon and perhaps I would not have had to get an -ectomy. Even so,

my myotomy - from an inexperienced surgeon, lasted for 18 years.

There are a few members of this group who CHOOSE to live on liquids

and not have any intervention done. That is your choice but to label

the rest of us as uneducated or to question whether we even have A is

just plain cruel.

One thing we have always been very careful to do is to NOT question

someones pains and symptoms because I think the majority of us went

through that 'it's all in your head' thing at least a few times with

doctors and families - we certainly do not need to get that here.

Well, this got kind of long. More like my 5 cents thrown in (lol)

Happy Swallowing!!

- in NC

surgically achalasia free since Jan. 11th
