Guest guest
Isabella -- What wonderful news!!! I will keep you in my prayers. Pam from Ohio From: Isabella Arnold <arnoldisabella@...>Subject: Dilatation succeeded and no more leakage"Achalasia" <achalasia >Date: Thursday, May 22, 2008, 6:53 PM Hi all, Yesterday I was too tired to post what happened, so I waited a bit. The dilatation was very succesfull I can now eat and drink again. With a kid's tube they were able to dilatate me. The dilatations will be repeated every week now until they are able to do it on a less frequent basis. I will need about 15 dilatations, probably even more, but the doc's are all sure it's just temporary as they've never seen it be a permanent problem before. They are very very confident and as Dutch had the same trouble and needed weekly dilatations as well I am very confident now too. I am soooo relieved. Furthermore the leakage of the J-tube has been solved. The surgeon put the tube a bit further into my intestines, removed some tissue piling out of the wound and he re-newed the J-tube stitches (my poor Romeo fainted while he did that...). Indeed this all did the trick and the tube can run full speed now without leaking a drop! I feel fine again, though the J-tube wound is a painfull due to the happenings of yesterday. The best thing is that I feel positive and confident again, especially because the dilatations that will be done weekly now (thus meaning I won't have days of not being able to eat and drink again). Thank you all for your support!!! Love, Isabella
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Someone recently posted that they had a hard time remembering who had what when etc. I know there is a list of members and their stories but seems incomplete. Anyone think it would be a good idea to make a quick, easy to read list/file of member's names, age of diagnosis, what treatments they have had with dates so that it is easier to have understanding and perspective on other's comments when reading? Would it be possible for everyone just to enter their own data into a file/update an existing one? I almost feel guilty reading about everyone's tough times right now because I am doing so well. I am 4 weeks out from my myotomy and I am eating everything, back to the gym etc. I am so thankful and now I am just battling a nagging fear of wondering how long this blessing will last..... take care everyone dawn
Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Please don't feel bad about feeling good! It is wonderful to hear success stories like yours and you deserve to feel on top of the world right now! I think we have all felt guilty about posting how good we feel after having our surgeries, but really, it gives a ray of hope to the new members out there who come here so sick and hopeless...they need to hear all the wonderful success stories, but often times, when group members have surgery and begin to feel better, they leave the group and move on with their lives which is a healthy thing to do, but then they are not around to share their successes anymore. It's important to hear the good stories and the not so good ones as well so that we can make our own educated decisions...I hope you continue to share your story of success and offer support in any way you can. I don't post much anymore but I do enjoy reading your posts as you seem to have so much good advice to offer. I keep thinking back to a past post a few years ago... I think it was either Sandy or who wrote that as the newer members join in, the elder members of the group kind of step back away from their posts and allow the newer group members to take over. Whoever said it, said it much better than me, but it is so true. It allows the newer members to become an active part of the group...seeking and giving support and it's nice to see the new members come and stick around and become part of the achalasia family! Funny, Sandy just posted yesterday that she just had her 4 year anniversary...Yesterday was 6 years for me and I'm doing great. I have even promised myself to make an appointment to have an endoscopy to find out for sure, because we just never really know. I think your idea is great and the words " quick " and " simple " are probably key for many of us here...Maybe even a link to go straight to it (like with the polls) so we wouldn't even have to go looking for it! : ) Sandi in No CA > > Hi Everyone, > Someone recently posted that they had a hard time remembering who had what when etc. I know there is a list of members and their stories but seems incomplete. Guest guest
Hi Isabella I am so glad that everything is coming right for you at last. My J Tube only goes in a short way and yours now goes in a bit further mmm makes me think that perhaps that is what I want. Will wait until I next see the surgeon for biopsies results and will mention it then. Did you ever have the problem of the giving set being forced out of the J Tube under a lot of pressure?? That seems to be my J Tube problem right now when it happens I have to stop the feed as it goes everywhere and makes a mess. Am seeing dietician on the 5th of June to review the feed that I am using. Guest guest
Hi Sandi, Thanks for the feedback! For some reason I have a knack of feeling guilty about things I have tried to "step up" a bit on this board because I feel such a sense of thanks for all the support and advice I get here and I know it is a large time commitment and everyone is giving of themselves so freely that I want to give to those who have given to me. However, I don't want to push anybody to the back of the bus- let's all squeeze a little closer together right where we are! It is so fantastic that people like you who are 6 years out from your surgery are still here GIVING to others. That is wonderful and such a statement about you as a person!! That 6 year success IS important for others (LIKE ME) to hear about so Thanks a million!!! I am kind of computer illiterate or I would brainstorm the "list" idea more thoroughly. I am happy to help though if someone points me in the right direction. I added my surgeon's name to the achalasia directory suggested today. He is already on this site's list added by another member- Thanks Beth wherever you are!! Take care dawn

Guest guest
Isabella, Sorry I have not logged on for a few weeks (I have been away). Sorry to hear of your trouble. You really are having a difficult time. Whilst I have not experienced what you are going through I was warned of this as a possible complication prior to signing the consent form. My surgeon described exactly what you are going through. He said the problem is fixed over time as eventually the new scar tissue just gives up and stops growing in that direction as the dilatation keeps breaking it apart. He told me it could take some time but he had never known the dilatations not to work. I do trust him and I hope it offers you further reassurance. All the best Steve Dilatation succeeded and no more leakage Hi all, Yesterday I was too tired to post what happened, so I waited a bit.
