I know he's not close but it's definitely Dr. Tom Rice at the Cleveland

Clinic. He is really accomidating for patients from out of town.

Carolinas Medical Center doctors have published a number of papers on

achalasia. One of the names on a number of them is:

Kent W Kercher, MD, FACS

CMC Surgery - Main

1025 Morehead Medical Drive

Suite 275

Charlotte, NC 28204

United States

704-355-1813

Fax: 704-355-5980

I don't know anything more about him. My surgeon was at CMC before

moving to Mayo.

Another place you could try is Duke. They have also published a lot of

papers. One of their surgeons that does myotomies is:

Aurora D. Pryor, MD

Surgery / General Surgery

Duke Health Center at North Duke Street

3116 N. Duke Street

Durham, NC 27704

Appointment Telephone: (919) 660-2229

Office Telephone: (919) 660-2270

Fax Telephone: (919) 660-2256

I don't know anything else about her.

Your very welcome. My son was diagnosed with A at age 12.He had a

open myotomy at the Clinic by Dr Rice almost 2 years ago.My sons

lowest weight was 86 poundsbefore his surgery and now he is about

137 give or take a few! Please let m e know if I can be of any help

and do ask any more questions .Just for the record, and I always do

this.Dr Rice has done over 300 myotOmies+(this was 2 years ago) so

whatever you decide to do about the A,ask Drs how many of these they

have done. Its crucial to know this cause they will say they can do

this surgery but dont really have much knowledge or

experience.RESEARCH RESEARCH!!!!!!!

--I also went to Dr Rice last year for a Heller Myotomy and highly

recommend him. I was 59 at the time of the surgery and am doing

great. Thank you Tonia for taking the time to share you knowledge

with me. My recovery was very quick and easy after surgery and I have

been eating most everything I want since with a little water to chase

it down. I do still have trouble with raw carrots and rice.

-Hi Tonia,

Things are going very well. I am able to eat most everything I want

and have very few spasms. Also no reflux so am not on any

medications. I am having tests done for malabsorption problems.

Have read that it can be an autoamune(sp) problem so I'm wondering if

it might be tied in with the achalasia. Will know more after the

tests are complete. I'm due for my check up for achalasia in June.

Did have his tests done at home? I e-mailed Dr. Rice to have

him fax the information I need for the tests to my gastro and home.

and also asked him about the connection of achalasia and

malabsorption.

Hope all is well for .

Hello All

I live in the UK and read the postings regularly and notice that knowbody mentions Surgeons from the UK who do Oesophagectomies for Achalasia. So here are the details of the Surgeon who did my ectomy and who came highly recomended by The Oesophageal Patients Association in the UK. The Consultant Surgeons details are:- Mr D. Page, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon, The Cardiothoracic Centre - Liverpool NHS Trust, Drive, Liverpool L14 3PE, UK. Mr Page has done hundreds of Oesophagectomies for Achalasia over the years and nows the ins and outs of the operation. Please feel free to contact him if you are from the following parts of the UK The Isle of Man, Cheshire and North Wales where I come from.

,

I added Dr. Page just now in the U.K. section of

http://achalasiadoctors.wetpaint.com.

For anyone who missed it, this is a new wiki (a website that

anyone can add to) for sharing contact information about surgeons

and gastroenterologists who are highly skilled in treating

achalasia patients.

Thanks to everyone who has added doctor information to this wiki.

Please keep it up. (Just click " easy edit " and type the

information into a form, line by line.)

Hey - where are you at in NC? I didn't have any surgeries

here - I traveled but I live on the Outer Banks and sometimes it is

possible to have a 'meet-up'. It is a very cool thing to actually sit

and talk with someone else with A. Chances are your moms never met

anyone else with A - it can be very lonely.

I have a couple of GI's I've used in the Norfolk/Va Beach - I like

them well enough, but they are not really experts in A.

Has she had any treatments yet?

Please let her know we are here and encourage her to come by and say

Hi.
