Guest guest
Hi , I was diagnosed with A almost 3 years ago and had 2 dilations since. Now I'm scheduled for my heller myotomy on May 15th, so that's 2 weeks later then yours. Also wondering what to expect of all of this! Getting nervous and everything. The thought that everything will gett better soon keeps me going these days. I've lost a lot of weight and feel pretty week lately and I can better not tell you about my moods! To bad that the doctor wasn't taking you seriously in the beginning with your symptoms! My 'luck' was thad I have a girlfriend who also has A and she advised me to a hospital with a doctor who's familiar with A. She did my dilatations but I get my myotomy in an other hospital by an other doctor/surgeon. Hope everything goes well in about a week! Will you let us know soon how you experienced it all? from the Netherlands. > > Hi > > My name is and I live in Ontario, Canada. Guest guest
Dear , Welcome to the Group. The first thing to do is to forget about your original mis-diagnosis. It is SO common for achalasia to be mis-diagnosed because it is so rare. It simply is not the first thing that GIs think of. I am glad that you do not have to wait too long now for your surgery. The waiting period is horrible. It gives you too much time to think. As for recovery time back to normal, that largely depends on what normal is for you. For instance, if you are a trapeze artist in a circus.............only joking! One important aspect is what job you do. The ability that gets compromised most of all is lifting. The ability to lift increases weekly, but at first you will not even be able to lift a pan of water. You will suddenly discover how heavy water is! It could be a few months before you are carrying shopping bags again. Eating-wise, my advice is to stick to a mushy diet for the first 4 or 5 weeks and then to start adding more solid food. The patience involved in this is well worth the wait and pays dividends, as you are giving your oesophagus the chance to heal. I am heading for 2 years now since my myotomy and am really well and love eating. I hope that you have as much success as I (and Andy) have had. Guest guest
Hi , Thankyou so much for your reply. I live in Stouffville Ontario. I am about 60 minutes north of Toronto. Unfortunately I am not close to you. It is nice to talk to people that have been through the same thing. The hospital phoned yesterday and confirmed my appointment so it looks likes everthing is a go. I am looking forward to eating steak and corn on the cob too. Right now I have difficulty with liquids going down. They just sit there,in my esophogus until I burp like a truck driver to get it down. It's so embarrasing. Anyway, feel free to e-mail me anytime. Thanks,,,,, <_40@...> wrote: Hi , I am from Thunder Bay, Ontario! Where are you? My Doctor is Dr. Ken Gehman. He is awesome! Guest guest
Dear Ann, Thankyou so much for the reply. I am getting so excited about my surgery, The hospital phoned to confirm my appt, and I have my pre admission tests this Friday.I am glad that everything went well for you. These are all positive things that are good to hear. As far as the lifting goes, I have a 15 year old daughter that can help me carry the bags when I go grocery shopping. Guest guest
, I had the surgery in July 2004, and it went very well. I just had an esophagectomy and after the 'ectomy, the lap heller was nothing! You will recover quickly. I did have to have a dilation not long after the lap heller, but did fine, until about a year ago. My esophagectomy was Feb. 25. God Bless you----you will be fine and don't be scared. > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > My name is and I live in Ontario, Canada.
