On Dec 26th at 7:37 and 7:38am Jake and Cole were born. Both weighing in at 5lbs 7oz although Jake was 18.5 inches and Cole was 20.5 inches!! They are the most incredible people I have ever met. I love them so much already. My husband and I are in awe!!As for my achalasia, it was a non event during delivery although I made sure to get everyone on board should I start aspirating anything. I think I gave myself enough time of fasting to make sure that my E was emptied (24 hours). Now I am just healing from the c section and will be home on Sunday with my little guys!! Here is a picture about 2 hours post delivery. I have seen better days, but my boys are really the subject of the picture here anyway!!!http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x280/caraendriss/babies.jpgbabies.jpgHappy, Healthy and Safe New year to all of you!!LoveCara 4-H Leader extraordinaire! Dear Cara,

There are many of us going through the same thing, kids after a professional career. I'd like to tell you it all turns into a sunny sky with gold pots at the end of the rainbow... it does in a way, but the sunny skies realistically have rain to make the rainbow, and in a way that is what achalasia is. It won't likely kill you, or even shorten your life much. It will teach you to research, investigate, ask questions and become assertive in your own care. These things may pay off in the long term in all aspects of life. You and your loved ones may face really daunting life threatening issues in the future, some medical, some otherwise. Going through the steps of achalasia teaches you to slow down, investigate and not hide from facts.

So after all that philosophy, the only real way to get through it all is with medication to help with anxiety and possible depression. (Somewhat kidding and somewhat serious.) There is a high incidence it seems, but not proven, with depression and achalasia. Regretting the past is fruitless, and things may not have turned out well if you had had surgery then anyway. You have to be able to let it go. Saying that and doing that are different things though. I had a friend all of a sudden have an almost overnight attack of severe anxiety over freckles and she became almost ready to go to the ER over these freckles, thinking they were cancerous. It seemed to happen overnight, but in actuality happened over a month or so. She got some anxiety medicine and turned around in a week or so, but she was calling dermatologists out of bed at night to come look at her miniscule spots before the medication. She absolutely couldn't function because she was so worried and frankly, she has other health problems much more likely to be serious in the future.

I'm not saying medication for anxiety and depression it to be taken lightly and everyone needs it, but it is an option, and people are very timid about talking about it. Many here have been helped with it, and it does seem like it helps with spasms, but maybe we just think it does.
