Hi, I'm one of the 'Lurkers' sandy talked about. I want some of you new people to know that I've had achalasia since 1971, actually before that because that's when I had surgery. I had my lung collapsed and was cut from front to back, there have been so many advances since then. After my surgery [i was 20 at the time and had a 3 year old daughter] I have had a great full life. I could tell I had a problem when I got really stressed but could do deep breathing and learned how to cope. My husband called it "Being an ostrich" but I always looked at it as my "scarlet o'hara coping mechanism" you know "I'll think about it tomorrow". So I sort of protected myself that way. We all have to find our own way to deal with our health problems. Anyway I just want you to know this is not the end of the world, and you can have a relatively normal life. I now have some problems and will probably have an ectomy soon but I didn't have as much information or a support

system like this. Most of the drs. I've gone to didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I tried to explain the nccp's, they said take maalox or tums which was unsuccessful at best. Now I feel a little vindicated because my disease is recognized. I say all of this encourage you new guys. You always have someone to talk to here, and we will understand and help you and I think most importantly pray for each other. Have a great new year and I'll be 'Listening" Jeaniemel231165 <jamkirkhamgate@...> wrote: It's a long time since I have posted a message 9 months in fact. I found this site heaven sent when I was first diagnosed it gave my all the information I needed to get through the first weeks of diagnoses. In March 07 I had a hellor myotomy and life has been great since. The scars are small reminders of a very bad time in my life, which I can now manage. Following the operation, when I started eating again I developed allergies I had never had before. I cannot have milk, mushrooms, grapes but it's a small price to pay for feeling like a new person. Last Christmas I eat a small amount of food and spent a couple of hours in the toilet, I'm sure you know what I mean. This year I spent the whole meal sat at the table, I had three courses followed by chocolates, how great is that. For all of you out there still wondering if the operation is

the best things to do I can only say it's been the best decision I have ever made. For those of you who remember me. Can I say a big thank you to all of you who supported me and gave me valuable information. I wouldn't have been able to get through it without you. Your support was my life line thanks Mel from West Yorkshire England
