Here is a few of your recent questions about PROMPT:

" Hi, Does anyone know of a therapist in Suffolk County Long Island

that uses the Prompt method. I heard that this might also help with

my daughters speech. Thank you "

" What is a PROMPT therapist? "

" We have never tried PROMPT. Can anyone recommend an experienced

therapist in Bergen County? Thanks. Jackie "

Here is some information from the PROMPT website:

" Being a parent or a teacher of a child with a speech disorder is at

times difficult and frustrating. Fortunately, trained Speech-Language

Pathologists are always here to help you and your child through those

rough times. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce to you the

PROMPT System, a hands-on approach to speech production errors, and

its application to two specific disorders: apraxia and dysarthria.

This workshop is divided into two main sections. The first section

deals with what the PROMPT System is, and then briefly guides you

through its history and development, and finally, you will learn

about the components of the system. In the second section, you will

be introduced to apraxia and dysarthria and will examine how the

PROMPT System is applied to these disorders. "

Here is some information you may want to take note of:

For those of you that have asked via email or phone, no, we do not

have any fees for our CHERAB meetings, and, you do not need to

register to attend our meetings (however, an RSVP to

kiddietalk@... or 732-871-6013 would be appreciated)

Perhaps the confusion is that Rhonda (from the wonderful Canadian

ECHO group)just posted about a one day PROMPT conference for parents

that you need to register for, and has a fee of $140. That is a

separate event, way way way up north of our meeting, and has nothing

to do with the CHERAB meeting on August 6th.

And finally:

Here is the information about the CHERAB homebase meeting for Monday,

August 6. Again, there is NO charge for this meeting, and no

registration required.

CHERAB Homebase Meeting

August 6, 2001

7:00 PM to 8:30 PM

St. Barnabas Ambulatory Center (not in the main hospital-the location

that is across from the Livingston mall) For more information visit

http://www.apraxia.cc under " meetings "

Just a quick reminder that CHERAB's speaker for August 6th, 2001 is

Barbara Goldfarb-Portnoff MA CCC SLP, Certified PROMPT Instructor

http://www.promptinstitute.com/staff.html who is one of the handful

of people in the world who trains other professionals on PROMPT. We

are lucky to have Barbara as our speaker, and I'm sure you wouldn't

want to miss her lecture.

Speaker Bio:

Barbara Goldfarv Portnoff, M.A. CCC-SLP, is the founder and director

of TIKES, Therapeutic Intervention for Kids and Educational Support,

a private practice in New Jersey devoted to the evaluation and

treatment of children and adolescents with communication disorders in

the tri-state area. Barbara has extensive experience working with

autistic and PDD populations, language impaired, and oral-motor and

speech motor disorders. She also has specialized training in Applied

Behavioral Analysis (ABA), behavior management, pragmatic and

developmental approaches. Integral to Barbara's therapeutic

philosophy is her commitment to consulting regionally with school

boards, parenting and other professional groups. PROMPT has been an

important component of her practice since 1993. Barbara holds her

Certificate of Clinical Competence, and State Licensure for New York

and New Jersey.

Barbara attended CHERAB's amazing first conference for apraxia this

past Monday and Tuesday, and will be speaking on the night of the

National airing of Inside Edition's segment on verbal apraxia which

features various families and professionals from CHERAB. All the

children featured in Inside Edition are at Bilker's talking

page at http://www.debtsmart.com/talk Please check your local

listings for the times and channels as to when Inside Edition will

air by you.

This August 6th meeting will also mark another anniversary year for

CHERAB!! We plan on having a celebration cake to mark this event in

celebration of CHERAB's hugely successful apraxia conference, Inside

Edition's August 6th Nationwide airing on verbal apraxia featuring

families and professionals from CHERAB, and CHERAB's anniversary.

Each attendee of this celebration meeting will receive the handouts

from CHERAB's historic landmark conference for apraxia. Again,

please check the website at http://www.apraxia.cc for more details!

See some of you Monday night!

Dear Jacki,

I found our Prompt therapist at their web-site:

www.promptinstitute.com you tell them where you live

and they e-mail you back with people in your area. I

do not know where Bergen county is so I do not know of

anyone. I am in Massachusetts.

Good luck,

Eileen

Is prompt like touch-cueing? Wiley's speech therapist uses touch cues.

Wiley imitates the touch cues and says ba or whatever is his

catch-all, which is actually da.

I'm a speech therapist and I have used a cueing system for years; it's

something that my mentor and I agreed upon. I'm trying to find out about

systems that are published, so I might get more consistency between clinic

and school. Do you have any references for " prompt " and " touch cues " ? Or

any other tactile-kinesthetic cueing systems?

Thanks in advance.
