Guest guest
hello amanda!! Check this out! http://www.mayoclinic.org/achalasia/rsttreatment.html I would be very encouraged Did you look at the group site? did you print the list of questions?? Have you emailed any of these surgeons with questions?? Check it out. Just a note, * a lot of surgeons like to be able to do a myotomy on an "E" that has not had botox or stretched, so you may want to ask that too. Good luck, let us know! Mark S. , M.D. D. About 12yrs ago a Dr. that I went to go see did know what was going on with me and just said that there was nothing they could do and I would just have to deal with it. But about a year ago I came across an Achalasia website and I could not believe it. I had all the symtoms that must be what I have so I've been learning as much as I can about it trying to find a dr. I can go to finally I find a doctor and he said that was exactly what I had he said that I could get treatment in Minneapolis or at Mayo but I don't know if I should just go to Cleveland. Then what type of procedure should I have done. I would like to get the botox first so I can get my weight up since I'm only 115 lb. Can someone help me. Does anyone have bad experiences in Minneapolis or Mayo in ROchester? Guest guest
Hi Guys,I am from the UK, I am now 42yr young, diagnosed with Achalasia in 1995, first signs for me as a boy having problems was at the age of 14. I have managed without surgical intervention and medical, although I have taken muscle relaxants to help in very difficult times. I eat a well balanced diet drink plenty with all meals and basically cope fairly well. Over the years I have spoken to many having the Hellier myotomy and nissan fundoplication, which is what I would have had back in 1995. I am glad I took the choice of holding off nad I still will. I lost weight sure but I am better for it. I was a tubby guy weight of 14.5 stone and a height of 5ft 7", now i am 11 stone and still the same height, well there is good goods in short asses. I remain positive at all times, drink soya milk in tea, coffee and with my meals. excellent in vitamin B12 and high in calcium, try it and you will feel the difference. What I will say is do the best for you gather as much information, but first see what you can do for yourself ! believe me there is loads and take control and don't just look at what the doctors can do. I wish you the very best and look after yourself, but be the powerful person you can be and show it to all.Best wishes . carolina moon <wooleeacre@...> wrote: hello amanda!! Guest guest
Hello dave In reference to your comment: Everyone is different with this dieasese, but my Doc, Marco Patti (UC San Fran) advises agaisnt botox or dialation before the myotomy. You're right we all are different and Dr. Patti is not alone in his belief. I think most doctors now would agree with him. Some of us thought had Botox and dilatations before we knew better. Yes, if I could go back and start all over I would have had neither. Maggie See what's free at AOL.com.

Guest guest
, Have you researched Achalasia via medical Journals, yet? There is a lot of Researchers that believe that Botox and Dilations prior to a Myotomy lowers a your chance of successful myotomy. However, you need a procedure to gain weight or strengthen your health prior to surgery; I would defiantly ask a doctor that specializes in achalasia. in SF From: achalasia [mailto:achalasia ] On Behalf Of Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2007 8:26 AM achalasia Subject: Re: Can Someone help Everyone is different with this dieasese, but my Doc, Marco Patti (UC San Fran) advises agaisnt botox or dialation before the myotomy. Guest guest
Hi , As you probably know, we all progress differently with this disease, and some can cope better than others. I am just curious as to when you had your last barium swallow, and what they had to say to you? I'll comment further when I read your reply. Keep up the great attitude!!!! Guest guest
Thanks to all that replied if anyone has more information that can help it will be greatly appreciated. It so nice to find this group that I can talk to about this stuff because most people don't understand what your going through. They say that they understand but most people don't quite get it or can understand it. You don't know how much this means to me, thanks. ~~
