Guest guest
It usually starts to work in a couple hours for me. Glucosamine can take several days to a week or more. Because of new side effects from Vioxx coming out, IMO I wouldn't recommend more than 25 mg. per day, but most prescriptions were not more than that. does it make yu sick at all or dizzy weak shaky? I was told Glycosomine takes up to 3 months to work.... when it grinds then it > gets inflamed big time ... or does it start grinding once its inflamed? > That may actually be a very good question, and given the variabiltiy of CP, could be a different answer for different people. :-/ lol ... ya and i never thought of that until now? i need to find out my answer .... probably a bit of both too hey mike? what does MT under your name stand for? Glucosamine is generally mixed with condroitin (shark or trochea cartilage), although the combo isn't as well proven to work as glucosamine alone. Incidentally the supplement I use has the combo in it. Always look for a supplement with 1500 mg. of glucosamine per day....most have that. You might ask your doctor for recommendations on brands. Glucosamine isn't as well regulated by the government and there are some brands that aren't as good. > > i saw an infomercial on TV that claims Copper helps and that Glycosomine > does not even help without copper for the building of cartlidge.... > lol.... ???????????/ That could be, but if your body already has enough available copper, more copper may just hurt you. Guest guest
I'm following this thread about the Russian machine and wondering - has anyone here tried or heard of anyone who has tried using TENS? A google search of TENS and achalasia together produced this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed & list_uids=1864193 & cmd=Re\ trieve & indexed=google which seems to suggest that it does lower the pressure on the LES, but I'm so recently diagnosed and don't understand if that translates to actual relief or alternative to surgery. Can anyone translate this article into English? Notan? Thanks! Donna
Guest guest
The TENS basically stimulates the nervous system into releasing Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) which helps relax the LES pressure. The problem with people with achalasia is, the nerves are damaged/gone so really TENS helps if there are some nerves still left. If you look at the research, it clearly helped 'TENS produced a significant reduction (P less than 0.01) in LES resting pressure from the mean value 56 +/- 6.4 mm Hg to 42.3 +/- 6.4 mm Hg;' Even still 42.3 is too much, it would still be difficult to swallow. The SCENAR is what we all should be looking into for now but since there isn't much research on it in this part of the world, the only person who has experienc treating achalasia with Scenar therapy is Dr Honand, so really he's the guy we should be finding out as much as possible from. Guest guest
Hi : I use a " Tens Unit " for back pain - " Tens " stands for " Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator " - is somewhat small - apprxoimately 6 " by 3 " rectangular shaped made mostly of plastic (sort of looks like a now old-fashioned " walkman " ) - uses two double-A batteries - and has two sets of wire leads that attach to the Tens unit on one end and to you via electrodes on the other (electrodes with the sitcky square patches). You place the electrodes from a couple to 10 or so inches apart from each other. The nerves/muscles in between two electrodes are stimulated at whatever intensity level you choose (from pulsing to constant, and light to intense stimulation). For me, I have found the Tens Unit has provided some pain relief from various injuries I've endured. I believe the theory of using a Tens Unit is that it causes the nerves and thus muscles to relax via the electrical stimulation. I can't say that it operates in any exercise capacity. Note I am an SMA carrier (my son Bryce has SMA) - thus, I would recommend you check with a Neurologist familiar with SMA before using the Tens Unit. You could check with your local Neurologist and/or via email w/one or more of the the doctors noted on the following list of amSMArt investigators (note the list requires Adobe Reader - which can be freely downloaded). http://acsresearch.swmed.edu/amsmart/AmSMART%20investigators-%20website.pdf Best of luck - Mitch ________________________________ From: menorquinlibre <menorquinlibre@...> Sent: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 10:29:21 AM Subject: tens hello, l would like if anybody uses a exercise machine called tens thank you jose -- Estoy utilizando la versión gratuita de SPAMfighter para usuarios privados.
