Guest guest
I am back home from my fun test filled morning. Dr. Nostrant was wonderful!! Not only did he have me knocked out for the scope, he insisted that I have the monomitry right after so I would be out of it. When I was having my monomitry he went over and talked to my parents. He said that I do have Achalasia and I have had it for some time now. He couldn't believe how young I was and that I have probably have had this for about 10 years and didn't even know it. After my tests the nurse came over and said that I also had a yeast infection. At first I started laughing and was really confused but then found out that it was in my throat. I am still a little out of it so I am going to go take a nap. I will keep you updated!

Guest guest
Hi , just out of curiosity, how old are you? I heard from one site that it can come on as early as 14, but usually in the early twenties which was my case. Glad all went well. Guest guest
I am 25 but the symptoms started when I was 20. Looking at my old hospital visits, the doctor thinks it might have started as early as 15?
Guest guest
- My son was 12 when his first symptoms began. He actually had a few previuos attacks with spasms before the Achalasia diagnosis came along. We didnt know hat on earth they were and neither did the hospital-just said growing pains or something muscular. They say A is something you were born with-go figure on that one though.I know of some other children that are alot younger than with A so age isnt really a factor.Just more cases in adulthood.Just thought I would share- Tonia > I am back home from my fun test filled morning. Guest guest
Thanks, Yeah, I was told it is a birth defect. I guess difference circumstances bring it on earlier or later in life. It probably goes undiagnosed because of the lack of education by the medical field on this disorder. With more familiarity, I'm sure the diagnosis will come much sooner. Thanks for your input. toniasdogsandi <toniasdogsandi@...> wrote: -My son was 12 when his first symptoms began. He actually had a few previuos attacks with spasms before the Achalasia diagnosis came along. We didnt know hat on earth they were and neither did the hospital-just said growing pains or something muscular. They say A is something you were born with-go figure on that one though.I know of some other children that are alot younger than with A so age isnt really a factor.Just more cases in adulthood.Just thought I would share-Tonia> I am back home from my fun test filled morning. Guest guest
Tonia- I am sorry your son had to go though this at such a young age. How is he doing now? What kind of treatment has he gone through?
Guest guest
Hi - Thank you for asking about .He is doing great now.Eating anything and everything and has gained all his weight back plus some. He had a lapro myotomy done and it was done incorrectly at UVA in Charrlotsville Va, so we had to go to Cleveland Clinic to DR Rice to have a open myotomy done(Thank god for this site and people telling me to take him there) and have it all taken down and refixed.Wished we would have found him the first time.Hes one of the best!Thats why you have to do research and go to best out there regardless of travel.
