Guest guest
Passing gas is part of any surgery. Are; you having proper bowel movements? I am 11 days post open myotomy and feel gassy all the time even with drinking plently of liquids. I think is from them forcing air into the E. Not sure though. Just make sure your bowels are moving good. If you are eating a lot of mushed veggies and drink pop you will get this too. Hope it helps and welcome. Guest guest
Hi Jane, Welcome to the group! I have'n't been a member of the group for very long myself, but the time I am on it has already given me so much! I hope you'll find the group as great as I do! As for the excessive wind coming up from your stomach. I personally don't have an answer to you, perhaps someone else here on the board does. I do have trouble with gas/wind coming up, I don't like it at all. It feels uncomfortable and it tastes/smells uncomfortable (to me, I can hold in so others don't notice it). It happens when I lay down, when I eat, when I bend etc. I blame it on the new fundoplicatio I have, it feels as if the wrap somehow opens and lets air out, somewhat like a valve does (somewhat like a non-return valve that stays open too long). I don't know if I'm right, I'm now just describing what I feel. Further more I always have to let gas/wind out while eating (I try very very silent burping, I have really learned to do that without others noticing). Food otherwise won't get down. On my barium swallow one can see the amount of air coming along with my food, still don't know and understand why. I don't know if my problems are the same that you have now. Mine startet about a month after surgery (not the "burping" part, that I have for so long now, cannot even remember when that startet, but I'ld love to end it!). How's the food going down? I hope it will all work out for the best!!! Love, Isabellasarah1coop <sarah1coop@...> wrote: Hi Isabella. I'm new to the group. Guest guest
HI Isabella, It's funny you talk about burping. For me, whenever my A is bad. I don't even have the ability to burp. Once I have a dilitation or now the myotomy, I can. I try not to use a straw when I drink, stay away from gassy veggies, and not too much dairy in one day. It seems to help. but that's just me. I am feeling much better today and to be honest I think that the gas was part of the nausea problem. anyhow, hope you are having a great weekend. Oh, just a note, a friend of mine had a little girl last year and named her Isabella. It's a very pretty name. bye for now, Isabella Arnold <arnoldisabella@...> wrote: Hi Jane, Welcome to the group! Guest guest
Hi , and I talking about going to lay on the beach together, me talking about burping...over and done with my good reputation of being a decent Dutch girl I guess...... I'm gonna quit joking now. I am so glad to read you're feeling so much better. Every new post of yours sounds more positive! I'm really happy for you and I really think things will work out OK for you. At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed... Guest guest
Hi . Many thanks for your and others' replies and welcome. I'm so glad I joined, everyone seems so helpful and concerned. No, I'm very constipated and having to take laxatives, but then I've had that problem since childhood. The anti-reflux medication helped me in that regard in the past, but doesn't seem to now (although it's not the same one). I hate taking laxatives, but no alternative at the moment. Trying to find one which does the least damage (vicious circle, they make me even more sluggish when I stop. I wish I could use the lesser evils, like Fybogel, but they seem to need a lot of liquid input and my biggest problem is that I fill up extremely quickly). I stopped taking the Lactulose the hospital gave me on discharge in the hope that it was that (as I gathered from the net that it can cause excessive wind), but no change yet. I had the keyhole op., without the build-up to prevent acid entering the E., thought maybe wind would be less of a problem with that approach. Bet you're sorry you asked now! Sorry to go on about my bowels, they've always been such a pain! Thank you for your advice. Jane > > I am so sorry I have not been on this week to give you my > update. Guest guest
Hi Isabella, thank you for your welcome and reply. It sounds a good group. I was in touch with Ann first and she's so helpful. I didn't have the fundoplication and wind isn't a problem when I'm lying down. I'll just have to get everyone to carry me around, like Cleopatra! Please see my reply to . If anyone has an answer to chronic constipation, I'd welcome that too! May as well get the bodily functions sorted while I'm at it! The food's going down ok, thanks, just very little of it at a time! At 7st. 8lb. now, and 5ft. 6ins., I'm looking forward to eating a decent-sized meal, hopefully, eventually! Best wishes, Jane > > I am so sorry I have not been on this week to give you my > update. Guest guest
Hi Jane I Just had surgery on the 23rd. I had some problems with my digestive system. It took me exactly a week until I had a movement and it has been hard for me to pass gas. In the hospital I had a side effect from the air from the surgery. Excuse me for not knowing what the correct term but it felt like I had tiny air bubbles through out me skin. It was really fun. I know for me that because of the fact I am actual getting food into my system, my belly is all out of wack. I'm pretty sure that what your experiencing is pretty normal. Good luck with everything. , Michigan
Guest guest
Jane, Just to add to what has shared, I had a really bad time with constipation following my esophagectomy on March 29th. My understanding is that the anasthesia " puts your bowels to sleep " so to speak, so they need to get working again. In addition, pain medication and a lot of other meds contribute to constipation as well. I had to use some over the counter laxatives, and because I was only on j-tube feedings for a while I was pretty limited in the choice I had because they had to be liquid. That being said, once I started eating again and got off the meds things seemed to straighten out pretty fast. Rest assured, your body just needs time to normalize again, and while it's not comfortable, what you are experiencing is not uncommon. Good luck to you, in NY Re: Post-myotomy achalasia > Hi Jane I Just had surgery on the 23rd. I had some problems with > my > digestive system.
