Guest guest
I found an ad in Sunday's Houston Chronicle for a new sales position @ Empi. The job is opening because they are coming out with a new device which is being marketed for victims of stroke having *difficulty swallowing*. Empi manufacturers a device which I use to control back pain. I placed a all and, get this, no-one within Empi that I could talk to this morning knows anything about this device, and I don't have a name for it. Will let you know if I learn anything worth sharing. I am trying to get further info to share, awaiting a call back. Make it a great day, everyone! Guest guest
There are quite a lot of 'devices' similar to it coming out in the USA and UK, 99% are for pain releif. If you read up on the SCENAR device via google you'll find out quite a bit about it but not enough to know exactly how it could help someone with achalasia. If it could help the way it says apparently it helped 2 other people, that wouldn't be bad at all. Obviously though, no research behind it and the only references to it on the internet are a few years old coming from 1 doctor.

The electrical nerve stimulation device is applied to the surface of the skin at the site of the pain. Just remove the sleek black neuromuscular stimulator unit from its professional case, insert the battery, apply the electrodes, and plug in the lead wires. TENS neuromuscular therapy stimulates sensory nerves to block pain signals, stimulate endorphin production to help normalize sympathetic function and has a biphasic, low volt current. Nerve stimulator is a device used to treat chronic pain, and pain associated with active or post- traumatic injury unresponsive to other standard pain therapies.Questions about TENS pain relief: (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation): How does TENS work? What is the history of TENS?Will TENS work for me?What makes a HealioHealth TENS better than the rest? Are HealioHealth TENS units safe to use with other medication? Will the treatment hurt?Is a HealioHealth TENS machine easy to use?How long before I feel benefit from my HealioHealth TENS unit? For how long does the pain relief last?HOW DOES TENS WORK? Electrodes are placed on or near the area of pain. Soothing pulses are sent via the electrodes through the skin and along the nerve fibers. The pulses (controlled by the user at all times) suppress pain signals to the brain. TENS also encourages the body to produce higher levels of its own natural pain killing chemicals called Endorphins and Encephalin. WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF TENS? Stone carvings from the Egyptian Fifth Dynasty in 2500 BC depict an electric fish being used to treat pain. Present day TENS began after the landmark paper by Melzack and Wall 1965, entitled "Pain Mechanism: A New Theory." An enormous amount of scientific research followed, resulting in the therapy used today. WILL TENS WORK FOR ME? TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a highly effective treatment for pain. It is used worldwide and recommended by sports coaches, physiotherapy departments, pain clinics, doctors and other medical practitioners. A TENS unit will ease pain, and should result in a decrease of drug intake! For many the relief is dramatic. Rheumatoid and Osteo-arthritis Back pain Menstrual Pain Labor Pain Peripheral Nerve Injuries Shingles Headache and Migraine Cancer Pain Trigeminal Neuralgia Phantom Limb Pain Sports Injuries Sciatica Aching Joints Post Operative Pain Muscular Pain Whiplash and Neck Injury and many others. For years our therapy has been used worldwide in both hospitals and the home. In some cases pain relief will continue (perhaps for several hours) after the unit has been switched off. For many people, relief is so dramatic that using TENS has changed their lives. We are always delighted when someone telephones to tell us that they are pain free for the first time in years ... and it does happen. TENS neuromuscular therapy is a treatment well worth trying. It does not always offer a cure but what it does do is relieve pain. Remember: Pain is the body's means of warning that something is amiss. Before using any HealioHealth TENS unit, you should establish the source and cause of your pain. Contraindications: HealioHealth Nerve stimulator TENS units must not be used by patients using a demand type pacemaker. Electrodes should NOT be placed at the front or side of the neck. Units should NOT be used when driving or operating machinery. Precautions: Pregnant women and patients who have heart disease or epilepsy should seek medical advice before using HealioHealth TENS. NEVER use HealioHealth TENS or any other method of pain relief to mask undiagnosed pain as this could require urgent treatment. What makes a HealioHealth TENS better than the rest? Guest guest
Hey, TENS devices are slightly different to SCENAR devices, i'd say they are basically more advanced but that is pretty obvious when you compare the costs. Have a read http://wellbeingdirectory.co.nz/articles/scenarwellington/startrekhealingdevice.\ html I know TENS devices have been tested on achalasia, I think they do help but only a little anyway, overall not much, that's basically what research suggests. Anyway, I really was hoping someone would be close to the Dr Honan, it would be great if someone here could chat on a one to one level with him just to find out that little bit more on SCENAR treatment. If I was nearby I would pay him a visit myself.
