Guest guest
Hi Tammy, We all should eventually fall into a pattern that we are most comfortable with, as long as it makes good sense to do so. (the happy swallower), drank only a glass of water with her meal, while watching me chug away literally gallons of soda. Could I have drank less? Yes, of course. But I must do what works best for me. When you have an esophagus located south of your stomach, you don't want food to accumulate there and prevent other food from getting through. The botox you had relaxed your LES. I'm not aware of it doing anything for the main part of your esophagus. Thus, it is mostly gravity that gets the food down. Will it go down fine on its own, or will it go down better with fluids? Why was the barium getting backed up in your system. You have to see, maybe by experimenting, what works best for you. In a message dated 5/9/2007 5:21:27 P.M. Right now, with the Botox, food feels like it is going down. Even before, liquids gave me problems and couldn't drink a lot. I know you are not a dr. but you have a lot of experience. When I did the timed barium on Fri. i could only drink 5 to 5 l/2 ounces of the barium before I felt sick. After 10 minutes the liquid was still at the top of my E. even with the botox, but then after 15 minutes had emptied in my stomach. Do you think I still need to try and drink as much liquid as I can or just go the way I am? I still feel EXTREMELY full when I try to eat more. I can really only eat 1/2 cup or maybe 1 cup depending on what it is at each meal. Everything stays down but just not a lot...that's fine with me .....at least it's staying down. Thanks for ALL your advice. I really appreciate it. Tammy Re: ESOPHAGECTOMY I am very impressed with all the posts about Esophagectomy. Barb and really said a lot to think about, how this major surgery affects their lives, recuperation time, other important things to consider. I had a barium swallow last week and it showed that my A. is getting nastier again. I am thinking that if it keeps on being nasty, I'll ask for botox or a dilation. And then perhaps, we'll see how this goes. Dr. Fuller told me, in our office meeting, that eventually this esophagus of mine might need the esophagectomy. So, it's good to read about your experiences, and I thank you for them. Deborah Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?Check out new cars at Autos. See what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
Haven't spoken to you in a long time. Hope you are doing well. I am 4 years post myotomy. Still have problems. Full after very small meal and spasms occurring whenever. Guess it's better than before. Would love to hear from you.
