Guest guest
Hi Seth, Those spasms are really horrible, I know, today I had my first (medium this time) spasms in 4 weeks. I had my Botox 4 weeks ago and unfortunately it really is wearing off now. There is no "real" answer as to what to do about those spasms. What helps today, may not help tomorrow. In a spasm period (I do have spasm free periods as well) I try to avoid certain foods/drinks which I have connected in the past with spasms (in everyone's case these foods/drinks can differ). In my case e.g. tomatoes, red wine, coffee, soda's, butter etc. Furthermore I try to sleep with my head/back a bit straight and I don't lie on my side or stomach. I don't lift my elbows above my shoulders and I avoid every kind of "burping". I take warm milk/cold milk/crackers/yoghurt/banana's as this seems to help (sometimes). Furthermore I take "Isordil", these are those small heart pills one puts under the tongue. As mentioned: today the banana might work, tomorrow Isordil... You mention you regurgitate as well now. Is this only a result from the spasm or do you notice renewed swallowing problems as well? Have you had any tests done lately on your achalasia? Wishing you a good night sleep, sorry for not being able to give you THE solution to your problem... I am 34 years old, live in Boston and had a lap heller myotomy performed back in 2001. The surgery was successful, and I've been able to eat meals pretty much with the assistance of one glass of soda/water at a time. Used to be about 3-4 glasses.Unfortunately, the spasms never really went away and lately they've been manifesting themselves at night. They wake me up and rather than being cured with a simple swig of water or eatting a small carrot, they will continue. Sometimes they result in regurgitating pardon the disgusting terms foamy saliva buildup. It's particularly aggravating since it pretty much ruins your night's sleep. I've tried a prescription of procardia, but it just seems to make me flush and a little hyper.I've noticed they seem to peak more often after drinking a glass of wine, or if I've been stressed at work. Thanks for any feedback.-Seth Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Guest guest
Seth, different things work for different people. I know for me ice cream helps get rid of or lessen my spasms when I get them. Some people worter works and other have tried peppermint. in Georgiasethj1972 <sethj1972@...> wrote: I apologize if any of you have posted about this or discussed this recently.I was wondering if any of you have any good remedies for nighttime spasms. Guest guest
Hi I am 32 and had my lap heller myotomy in 2005. I am going through exactly the same thing as you in regard to the spasms. When mine come on (most usually at night) I take a 10mg nifedipine tablet and sip on hot chamomile tea. I will try to relax and watch something on T.V until the spasms subside. My spasms come on if I have been stressed either physically or mentally. The nifedipine tablets only work for me if I take them just as the spasm is starting. Guest guest
Thanks for the feedback. I will try some of your suggestions. Isabella, what a drag that coffee, red wine, butter may cause them! I'm interested in trying the 10 mg of nifedrine (sp)...for me baby carrots for some reason tend to open up my throat and relieve the spasms, sometimes. I noticed that the web group site has an area which people post their remedies there. Also, Isabella, you asked if I've had any follow up. My doctor recommended follow up exploratory endoscopy every 5 years or so, post myotomy. Most likely to look for polps, possible precancerous stuff. I had one last year which was uneventful thankfully. When I regurgitate at night, it's very rare. But, a pain nonetheless. Seems dehydration can be a cause of spasms for me. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everybody! -Seth > > I apologize if any of you have posted about this or discussed this > recently. > > I was wondering if any of you have any good remedies for nighttime > spasms.
