Guest guest
Boy do I agree! I have had SO MANY people ask me " how do I get Achalasia " and I just want to SCREAM!!! I know alot of people look at us and think " you don't LOOK sick " . I hate it. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that thinks that is so incredibly insensitive for people to say. Again - this just makes me think of the people that came up with the lap band system. I want to write to them so bad and explain achalasia to them - because it sounds so much like they are " giving " people achalasia to lose weight kinda..... anyway - have a great day! Guest guest
Well I guess I'd take the " you don't look sick " over the " what's wrong with you you look sick comments. " I am in a healthy weight range for my height, yet 13 weeks ago I was 40 lbs heavier and pregnant. I just ask people what they would like me to do about it since I can't eat hardly anything of substance since the surgery. , FL > > Boy do I agree! Guest guest
Hi : Hope you are doing well. just gradated this weekend so now will focus on surgery and getting things in order. I read your comment " not eating anythingn of substance since surgery". Are you still on liquids? Haven't talked to you lately. Keep me posted. I am in that last two weeks dreading the surgery. Just wish it would get here and get it over with. Tammy Re: / Well I guess I'd take the "you don't look sick" over the "what's wrong with you you look sick comments." Guest guest
Tammy, I'm moving on up in the world of eating. It just takes me SO long to eat and I have to drink SO much and I don't have a lot of time. This weekend I did try pizza and a bisquit. I did fine with both but I had a very stressful week as I had to go back to work so I stayed on full liquids all week because I was scared of choking at school. I can't wait for your surgery. I thank God every day for mine, although my stomach is definately not happy about having food in it. I suppose it takes some getting used too! , FL > > > > Boy do I agree! Guest guest
- Glad to hear you are doing better. Try not to overdo at work - know that's easier said than done. Hopefully it will be over soon. Why is it taking you so long to eat - is it just the swelling still or is that how it will be? Did you have any spasms following surgery? We are going over Monday afternoon and staying the night since I have to be there at 5:45 A.M. Hoping to be coming back the day after surgery - I would rather rest in my own bed. Anyway, call anytime. Wish I lived closer and I could help you out now. Take care. Tammy Re: / Tammy,I'm moving on up in the world of eating. Guest guest
Hi ladies! Just want to throw my two cents into what you are talking about. My one year anniversary for my 'ectomy by Dr. Rice was on March 29th. I am able to drink caffeinated tea and coffee and it doesn't bother me at all. I am also able to drink orange juice without a problem. Dr. Rice did not put me on any acid reflux medication - he said sometimes it can be an issue, but usually he likes to wait and see before automatically starting someone on that. I have had a couple of times in the night that I have woken up with an acid taste/slight burning sensation in the back of my throat, although it was nothing like heartburn. My guess is acid had splashed back up from my stomach. I will report that to him when I see him for my yearly follow-up (not scheduled yet), but in the course of a year it has only happened a few times (less than 5 times), so I don't know if that warrants being on a daily med for it. As for 's comment about no spasms.....isn't it wonderful?!?!?!??! You won't ever have that again! That all by itself makes the surgery worth it in my opinion! There were definitely those times in the beginning when I questioned my decision to do the surgery - I think that is only normal, and I think we all go through it to some degree. It is a rough surgery and it is a long road for recovery. There can be a lot of pain, there can be complications and it just takes a while to get back to normal. Because we live in a society where we have become accustomed to quick fixes and fast results, we don't have enough patience with ourselves to wait it out. I can tell you after a little more than a year, that it is great to feel " normal " again, and I don't ever question my decision now.
