Guest guest
To all concerned: ....I've been doing research about this poorly understood condition, and here are interesting facts I discovered and put together: -- esophageal motility including LES is controlled by a VAGUS nerve among other (but this one is th emost important) -- there are at least two published studies about involvement of this nerve in achalasia (electrical stimulation eased the symptoms and conncection between achalasia and heart activity in many patients -- hear rate is also controlled by this nerve). Same for GERD/LES motility -- Vagus is in charge -- vagus nerve leaves the spinal cord in the region of the very first vertebra -- where head meets the neck -- there is a connection (you can find it even through Google) between neck injuries/whiplash and difficulty swallowing -- there is a guy on the Web who tells about his cure from achalasia by taking vitamin B for nerve function. Perhaps, it indeed helped to restore the nerves -- but he also says, he started taking these vitamins after a neck injury. It is possible that HIS neck injury affected the Vagus nerve in the opposite manner, correcting its function -- I myself certianly had many little neck/head injuries, especially when actively riding horses when I had many falls between 1997 and 99 when I had the very first spasm of th eesophagus. The last such accident (and quite noticable -- I had migraine the next day and stiffness in my neck/back) happened in 2004 when I already had problems (only spontaneous spasmatic pain in the esophagus, no swallowing problems yet), and I started having difficulty swallowing within a year. -- I just started an acupuncture course with a new doctor (originally from China), and the first thing she did was to start working on my back and neck, acupuncture and massage. She thinks that the nect problems she sees could be related to an old accident/whiplash or so. Just to giv eyou guys some food for thought... Does any of you guys here have neck problems? Any accidents that went unnoticed? Quincia - - I wonder what your TCM doctor thinks? I myself already have a chiropractic appointment, but this lady is so good that I have to wait three months to see her! So, I hope I wills ee soem results first with Chinese massage and acupuncture. Please, post your stories, if anyone can also see such a connection. this message is also posted on Alternative_treatment_for_Achala sia/
