Guest guest
Dayna: I went to Mayo Clinic but they only did a barium - not a timed barium. My surgeon wants a timed one so he can see how it empties - Botox has changed that but he says that's not a problem. How long have you had A. and what are your symptoms. Guest guest
Dayna, It is very likely your surgeon will do his own tests anyway, which will be repeats of all the lovely ones you’ve already had. BUT, you should still go into the consult with your most recent films from your GI doc for the surgeon to see. Stand your ground and get those films!!! Keep us posted. in NY From: achalasia [mailto:achalasia ] On Behalf Of brooklyndayna Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 10:19 PM achalasia Subject: Re: Question for anyone who has consulted with a surgeon lately Hi , Thanks for weighing in. It is good to know that this is standard and that I'm not asking for something unusual. I wrote to my GI and asked him to release all medical records to me for the surgery consult. When I went to pick it up it was only written documents. I questioned the receptionist about the films and they said this was all he said to release. I then called the radiologists office where the barium swallow was done to get them to release it and they said they can't because they gave it to my GI. So I have a call in to him and will insist that he release this stuff to my before my appointment. Makes me wonder what the deal is here? Something to hide?? I've already found things in my medical report that I wasn't told, which is another reason I have a call in. > > Hi Dayna, > > You should be able to get a copy from the hospital where the tests were > done. Guest guest
WOO HOO you tell em Debbi!!!!! Your records are exactly that…YOURS!!! Dayna, those are YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS. Your doctor does not own them, nor can he keep them from you. When my GP's office wouldn't give me the MRI report on my knee a couple years ago (I was in a foam leg immobilizer from my ankle to my hip... in 100 degree heat!), I called the hospital where the test was done. They faxed me a medical records release. I filled it out and faxed it back. They faxed me my MRI report and I called and made an appt with a specialist. Start to finish was about 30 minutes total. (Oh, and I fired my GP!) If the doctor has the films in his office, he is required by law to release them to you (or anyone that you authorize). If they are in the radiologist's office, they are required by law to release them to you (or anyone that you authorize). If they are in the hospital's radiology department, they are required by law to release them to you (or anyone that you authorize). If the films were taken in a hospital, I would start with them. They probably have digital equipment (many hospitals do these days) and can burn you a CD with your images that you can pick up later today. In fact, I now get copies of ALL my barium swallows and any other testing (I had CTs of my sinuses last year, for example) on CD, and I keep them in a file at home. (You can also look at them on your home puter.... pretty cool!) Those are YOUR records, and any doctor that won't release them to you is overstepping his authority. Debbi in Michigan, sick and tired of doctors thinking they are gods and we are imbeciles incapable of taking care of ourselves....
