Guest guest
Hi everyone, bored here at school in the media lab and just want to update all of you guys of my progress. For those who don't know, I had an transthoracic esophagectomy last June when I was 26 years old. I still get the occassional side effects but nothing too extreme...oh except I wanna ask this: If any who got a " transthoracic " approach, meaning through the right side of the body, has gotten any back pains or arthritis please let me know and tell me some info on what to do about that...when i get a stomach ache it hurts my back a lot, my mother, who is a dentist said it might be " referred pain " because my thoracic surgeon cut the nerves in my vagus nerves area and the plexuses around that area due to the surgery. Cold weather is definitely not helping the pain at all. Been having a few dumping symdrome issues, but managable. Other than that I feel ok for the most part, i try not to over exert myself (esp. after my lung(s) were a bit affected) and I don't try to have too much tiring activites. Also me and the rest of the SF Bay Area Achalasian have been attending meetups and we enjoy hearing other stories achalasia and non-achalasia related. its been a blast. All of them are great! Eating wise, alot better, chew more, small portions, softer the better, and esp. for my case i haven't had a heartburn in months; which is good because i was a high candidate to get barrets and even dysplasia of the esophageal lining = esophageal cancer... Also...weight loss yeah! I was a really heavy set person, esp. for a person with achalasia, but now i lost nearly 45 lbs. and i feel great! Like Tony the Tiger gggreat! Now i'm back in school...ugh...but actually i enjoy it rather than in a hospital right? from the foggy SF Bay Area

Guest guest
Hi , I live in the bay area, was wondering if you had any meet ups planned? Would love to get together with other achalasians!!! Was diagnosed in 2009, had HM that year and have had 3 dilations the past 6 months or so! Hope you are still doing well!
