Guest guest
, I am so glad to hear that everything has been straightened out. It obviously was meant to be that you were to have your surgery performed by Dr. Rice. I know that he will do an awesome job and you’ll recover in no time… Enjoy the cold one!! – Husband of

It took me 3 months to convince people that I needed to go there!!! Thank God it didn’t you!!!!! After all the insurance issues I was freaking out over, and spending my entire work day preparing information, statistics, thoughts and reasons as to why Dr. Rice at TCC is the only one capable of performing the esophagectomy on me on 3/29, I got a phone call at just after 5pm today from my case manager at my insurance company. Everything is being approved with Dr. Rice, as if it is in-network. So that's good news, and we will be all set. Apparently, there was an error when all the information was re-submitted, and they submitted it to the wrong regional medical director (which explains why it was a different person than who originally approved everything else with TCC). My case manager basically said that after we spoke yesterday, everything I was telling her just wasn't making sense and so she looked into it again. She got everyone at every level involved today, and by the end of the day had obtained a verbal approval from the correct medical director, and assured me that everything would be finalized next week. Can I just say - WOW. What a whirlwind. First the drama of getting the final esophagectomy opinion from Dr. Rice. Then processing that info. and deciding to do it. Then living with that and the fear of the whole thing....having restless sleep and dreams about it every night. Now this. But here we are, and it's all set now. Yikes. Needless to say, I am enjoying a cold one right now, hoping to take the edge off, as it will be one of the last for a while I'm sure. On the plus side, now this can still happen as planned on the 29th, right?!?!?!? LOL As scary as it is, I can't wait for it to be over. in NY

Guest guest
, Thanks – I am also one of those people that feel that things happen for a reason….although sometimes I doubt that, as it doesn’t always make much sense. I have the utmost faith in Dr. Rice. I know this is going to be a difficult surgery and recovery, but at my age and with my two little boys, a few hard months now is worth it to have the peace of mind that I will be healthier and less at risk for issues in the end. Thanks for your support. I’ll probably be calling soon – your wife gave me her number to chat, and I know she had a partial ‘ectomy by Dr. Rice, so she would be great for me to talk to. in NY From: achalasia [mailto:achalasia ] On Behalf Of L. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for you prayers and support. I got your note yesterday and just didn’t have time at work to respond. I appreciate all your help, and since you had surgery with Dr. Rice, I will probably be giving you a call in the next few days or early next week if you don’t mind. I’d love to chat with you about it. Again, thanks for all your help and I’ll call you next week! I can’t believe things are falling into place and I am really doing this. At least I have my kids to keep my fear in check….I can only show so much around them. So that’s good. Strength for them is more important that my fear….I’ll wait until we’re on our way to TCC (oh, and the 3 days before surgery that we have to spend out there) to lose it.
