Guest guest
Hello All, I was diagnosed with achalasia in March 2005, later that year I had a dilatation which allowed me to 'function' until now. I am 17 1/2 weeks pregnant and my symptoms are worse than ever. Since week 13 of my pregnancy I have only been able to tolerate liquids. I did an upper endoscopy with savory dilatation on Thursday last which provided no relief, in fact, I have had terrible bouts of diarrhea since. Has anyone had a similar experience? Guest guest
Hello- Gosh I cant imagine being pregnant and dealing with this. How is your Dr treating your pregnancy with you only tolerating liquids? Have you had other test for confirmation of achalasia? Where are you located? Sorry for all the questions- I would most strongly suggest you get with a specialist to help monitor you while you are pregnant with this disease.People who are pregnant have carried babies full term here and they have been healthy(several moms here) but were under supervision with a specialist.Let us know where you are from and we will get you with someone close to you. Guest guest
Hello Yaneek, I had my A and dialatation before I had 4 pregnancies. During all four pregnancy's I had horrible spasms, only during pregnancy, they were not there before or after. With the first pregnancy I was told by the specialist, that it would be worse during pregnancy because of the pressure on the E. At that time 20 years ago, they told me there was nothing they could do and I just lived with it. I could still eat, it just meant that when I had spasms, usually during the night, I would just stay up until they were gone. I didn't have trouble eating all the time, I just used lots and lots of water. although I was exhausted from no sleep. > > Hello All, > > I was diagnosed with achalasia in March 2005, later that year I had a > dilatation which allowed me to 'function' until now. Guest guest
Hi Yaneek, I can empathize with you. I had my baby four months ago and will be having surgery next month. It was tough but everything ended up going amazingly well. The doctors said I would probably have a malnourished small baby and my son was 8 pounds 1oz and wonderfully healthy. It was actually much harder on my body than on his, especially the last two months. I would recommend having your doctors test your key tones in your urine. I am not to familiar with key tones, but was told that they tell if your body is burning your fat stores for energy rather than burning your food. When my key tones were high I would get IV with nutrients. I would feel worlds better after getting the IVs and was getting 3 a week by the end. It helped me so much. Milkshakes were also my saving grace. If you ever want to talk let me know (my email is Melj916@...). Good luck with everything. Take care, in Colorado yaneek Lawson <yaneek80@...> wrote: Hi Tonia, It's terrible being pregnant and having to deal with A. Any attempt at a having a solid meal results in food spoiling in my E and making me horribly sick. My Ob/Gyn is very unfamiliar with this disease and he has suggested having lots of ensure and freshly made fruit and vegetable juices. I also try having yogurt, and take liquid vitamins daily. I live in Kingston, Jamaica and I've never met anyone else with this disease. I have been lucky to find a specialist consultant who is very familiar with A, having worked at a Gastrointestinal Centre in Canada for years. BUT, even with that experience he noted that I was his first pregnant achalasia patient. At this point I think the best thing I can do is to make the best of the liquid nutrition available, and stay in close contact with my Drs. Yaneek Bored stiff?
