Thanks. on and off for the last week she has been complaining of a stomach ache and occasional sore throat. She say's it's not acid reflux. It may or may not be. Try giving her some Tums or other antacid and see if the discomfort is reduced. They tend to work quickly, although not always completely, so it is easy to see if they are doing something. If they do help, at all, then it is likely she has an issue with acid. Even so there could be more to it such as esophagitis. So either way I would call and ask the doctor about it. She gets mad if I mention acid reflux, because as she told me, "I'm never taking Prevacid again". I will be taking Nexium or another until I get my problem taken care or perhaps forever. Wish I didn't have too, but not a big deal. Should I be calling the doctor to get her examed? The pains may be one of those things we call spasms. In time you may find it is something "normal" for her. We are all different so what is normal for some of us is not for others. In time you will know what is normal for her. Right now you don't know so I would check these kind of things out in case they are something. In time you will know and it will be easier on both of you. It is kind of like having the manometry. Relax it won't always be like this. It will get better. Things were bad, but I got better. I am again waiting for things to get better. They will get better. Life is like that, with or without achalasia. notan

Guest guest
Hello Brave Tia! I think it is wonderful news that you can swallow all types of food without problems. That - for us Achalasians - is something sooooo special. I hope I'll be able to do that one day. The news that you can do it encourages me. Do you know, before I was diagnosed, and up to my Botox injection I was so very thin, could only drink liquids or eat very mushy food. Then, after the injection, which allowed me to swallow much more easily, I had such problems with my stomach. It had grown so tiny and was not used to any amounts of chewed food. It took me over two months to get my insides back to normal. And I had terrible constipation, stomach ache, gas (yikes!). I was scared about the stomach aches and had they continued much longer I would immediately have gone to a doctor. I have a very understanding and rational husband who told me to be patient, who pointed out to me that this was all normal after months of a liquid diet. My stomach had to learn to work again. Only now - 10 weeks after the injection! - do I feel strong and feel good. And for the first time in ages, other people - besides my lovely family - are telling me I look better. I have even put on 4 kilos! You had surgery, which in itself takes a long time to recover from. You must go and see your doctor or at least talk to your doctor if you have pains. They'll be able to check things out. I think this is important, especially as your surgery was only a short while back. I'm sure you will get better, Tia. I'm thinking of you across the miles! Guest guest
Dear & li'l Tia, Glad to hear that Tia can swallow almost every food now and mangaes to keep it down. This is really a great and encouraging news!! Weel done Tia!! Looking pale and tired is quiet normal for Achalasians before and soon after the surgery, but this also goes away with time. I had my lap HM and dor fundo in July last year and 5 months down the line, luckily, I feel really great. Like Tia, I also can eat almost everything, and sometimes even without a drink by my side. However I still looked weak and pale until a few weeks ago. Recently only friends have strated telling me that I look a lot better now. I also feel more energetic myself. So I am sure Tia will be the same in a few weeks time. Regarding the stomach aches, I too get them some times even today. That's usually when I haven't eaten properly for a few hours or have eaten something that causes gas formation (Yuk!!). I even feel a bit pain in my E, something like spasms, but they don't last long. I think that, even after surgery, we Achalasians need to eat small portions of food more often, rather than 3 large meals (like normal people). Tia, I'd suggest you to do the same for few months at least. I am sure these pains will also become a thing of the past. Considering Tia's age, like other people on this group, I'd also suggest setting up a meeting with her Drs. If it is acid, they might suggest some alternatives to Prevacid. Hope this helps!! Good luck for a speedy recovery Tia!! Happy New Year to all! Would going back on prevacid be the cure? I'm still trying to learn about all of this. I'm not sure if acid reflux and gas or the same thing, related or totally different. I'm not too concerned with the paleness and her being tired. I'm assuming this is totally normal considering how much she went through for months before surgery. Guest guest
and Tia, Although I'm sure it is quite frustrating to continue to have these issues, it should continue to improve. It took several months after my myotomy to feel more normal. I certainly had stomach aches. Most of the time, I could attribute these to eating too much at one sitting or eating a food (meat, bread...) that I had not had for some time. My stomach, I believe, was simply pushed too far too fast from the limited diet to which it had become accustomed. Also, the wrap must have further shrunk my stomach. The pain would be quite bad and I found I had to walk, walk, walk to try to get some relief - no idea why that helped. Maybe it didn't, but it seemed to be the only thing I could do and not exacerbate the pain. The good news is that that all resolved several months post surgery. Another possibility, of course, as has been mentioned, is that Tia is having some spasms. Spasms too can be quite painful and each of us seems to experience them slightly differently. For me, again, these have all but resolved, especially once I had made it several months after the surgery. Tia - hang in there sweetie - it really should continue to get better. You are such a brave little girl!
