Guest guest
Welcome to this group, and sorry to hear about your aunt. It seems as if you are asking about a "brick and mortar" support group where "real" people go to a "real" place and share information and help each other. While there could be such a place, there are probably not enough of us out there for such a place to exist. However, the news is not that bleak. There are many knowledgeable people who regularly read the posts here and could probably answer most of your questions. Some live in South Florida and could give you the names of doctors to go to. Since you say that your aunt has achalasia, then she has seen a doctor and has been diagnosed. If you would like to help your aunt thru this group, then I suggest you tell us as much as you can about her. How old she was when symptoms first started, how old she is now, how long ago diagnosed, has she had any procedures or surgeries performed, her present condition, names of doctors, what you would like to accomplish, your first name, etc. Being you have read a number of posts here, then you should understand that we might be able to help your aunt achieve a better quality of life by providing us more information about her. Guest guest
Hello, My 13 yr old daughter has A, and we live in Orlando. We were referred to Dr Worth Boyce in Tampa who is also her other GI Dr and he is great, his main focus is esophogeal issues. Her Heller myotomy was done by Dr. Rosemurgy who is also in Tampa, at Tampa General Hospital, he is the only Dr in the southeast that preforms this surgery I've been told. As far as spanish translation I can't help you there, but if you would like the phone number for either one of these Dr's I would be more than happy to supply them for you. I have also been told Dr. Rosemurgy has patients in the past that have come up from Miami. Best of Luck. Guest guest
We are also in South Florida. We went to see a surgeon yesterday to hopefully schedule my husband for his surgery, only to find out the only 2 times he's performed this type of surgery has been on a pig. So my husband doesn't want to continue with him and asked me to start investigating who performs this surgery on actual patients. I think he's starting to freak out a little bit. He's already been through the dilation about a year ago and it did help for a few months, but now he's back to not being able to eat and throwing up all the time. So we know that surgery is his last but only resort. I told him about this Tampa dr that I found on an achalasia list but he still wants me to call and ask how many times has he performed this surgery. Then I came on here and I see that you guys are talking about him too. So I'm guessing he's specialized in this?? We're down south in Hollywood, FL but we are actually looking to move into the Tampa area and took a drive out there this past weekend. So we won't think twice about going up there for the surgery. I hope you all can help!! THANKS. Guest guest
, my recommendation would be to get a consult with: H. Worth Boyce, MD USF Medical Center 12901 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Tampa, FL 33612 (813)974-3374 wboyce@... http://hsc.usf.edu/medicine/internalmedicine/swallowing/fac_boyce.html I met Dr. Boyce in Cleveland at an esophageal disorders conference a couple years ago. He established the Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders at USF Medical center in 1987 and he is the director there. While not a surgeon, he is VERY experienced with achalasia, and I'm sure he could refer you on to an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon in that region. Dr. Boyce is very pleasant to talk with, and he has a compassionate demeanor. I hope this helps! Debbi in Michigan PS -- has your husband only had one dilation? My first one helped " a little " but my SECOND one was much more effective. I haven't had any further treatment since 1998. > > We are also in South Florida. Guest guest
, I am from Palm Beach Gardens, FL and just got back from Tampa - Center for Swallowing Disorders at USF. I previously went to UF Shands Hospital but did not get any good vibes from them. Chose them because they did all of my husband's transplant surgery. USF Tampa are great and Dr. Rosemurgy is looking at my file this week to schedule surgery. My dr is Estores and he was very thorough with the testing and review of my case. He told me that Dr. Rosemurgy has performed this operation hundreds of times. And I did my own research on his credentials - they are high marks all around. I have over 20 years of experience with surgeons and health issues with my husband so I can tell good docs from average ones. So far Tampa is really impressing me with knowledge and speed with my case. Please contact Janet or Betsy for a consult appointment - you won't be disappointed. My surgery will probably be in next 2 months. I will let you know how it goes. Stephany
Guest guest
I called Dr. Rosemurgy's office yesterday and made an appointment. We're looking at homes in that general area anyway, so we're taking the drive up next weekend and staying for Monday's appointment. I've already spoken to his dr here and he says he'll provide whatever records they need, so we're good to go. It's just so frustrating to see how he can't enjoy eating! It's torture to watch, I can't imagine living with this day in and day out 24/7. stephanykraft <sk@...> wrote: ,I am from Palm Beach Gardens, FL and just got back from Tampa - Center for Swallowing Disorders at USF.
