Hello..

We came home yesterday - 31st after

Bimal 's surgery on 26th october ..

Here are some details which could be of interest to some of us going for surgery

soon..

After surgery on 26th morning ,

Bimal was transferred to the room on 26th evening ..he was fine and was also

talking to us a little ..watched Cricket match for sometime..and Glucose was

given intraveinous from 26th evening till 29th october ..

On 27th morning at 7 am,they removed a tube from the nose and at 10 am

They suggested to start drinking a little water every 30 minutes ..coconut water

was also given in the late afternoon..

Evening ,they gave filtered sweetlime juice

With glucose in small portions ..he was recovering slowly on 27th & 28th..but

was given only small portions of water and filtered sweetlime juice and coconut

water ..

On 29th morning ,they did x-ray test and report was found to be normal ..they

started giving pasty/semi-solid foods in small portions and then he was

recovering faster..

On 30th morning ,they also removed the final tube attached at the waist..and

then

We were discharged in the evening..we stayed overnight at hotel and met

Dr.Palanivelu on 31st morning before taking a flight back home..

Bimal said today that he is already feeling the difference in swallowing after

surgery..

Dr.PV has done hellers myotomy by laparoscopic surgery more than 1500 in last 10

years..

In 2nd week october ,they had every day one achalasia patient for

surgery, including a woman from malaysia ..who went back in 4 days..

On 26th october also, there was one more lady from Rajkot for achalasia

surgery.she was suffering since last 2 to 3 months.

Her doctor advised her not to go for dilatation but to go directly for

surgery..her dr. Himself was suffering from achalasia and he himself had got

surgery done by Dr.Palanivelu ..she was also fine after surgery and recovered

fast like Bimal ..

Bimal had a little pain in shoulder on 27th & 28th but dr. Said it was normal

and it will go away soon and it did go away on 29th.

He has been asked to take some tablets and syrup for 10 days..

If anyone wants to know names of these medicines, I can inform the same...and

dr.has suggested - No hard foods, no much spicy food & to take only soft foods

for 2 to 3 weeks ..after 3 weeks ,he will be able to take normal food but

carbonated soft drinks must be avoided at all times..

He has been also advised to drink water, one hour before meals and then 1 hr

after meals ...no drinking of water during meals..except little sips,if

needed..but very little ..

Dr.PV said that so far none of his achalasia patients ever came back wirh any

complaint and he said that he doesn't want us to come back to him..

My total hospital cost came to US$ 4000 including surgery /hospital

bills/medicines etc..

It was amazing to see that there were 4 very small scratches on his stomachit's

so small that nobody can notice it unless one looks very carefully at it..

..

GEMS hospital staff,nurses,asst.drs. Etc all are very nice, courteous, helpful and

cooperative to all...they give all necessary information time to time, without

asking ..

They make the patients very comfortable

By all means..we all were extremely happy with Dr.Palanivelu and entire staff of

GEM hospital ..

Asst.Drs. Are visiting every hour..

Dr.PV is visiting once in the morning and again in the evening ..NO Complaints

!!..

In fact, they are doing excellent job at all levels ..

Bimal will be going back to chicago on 11th.

If anyone has any questions, I will answer..

Mukesh ..

Mukesh,

It's great to hear that Bimal is coming along well in his

recovery! I'm so glad to hear that the hospital experience went so

well for him, too! Hopefully, he has relief for many years to come!

Wow Mukesh that great news tha Bimal's was looked after so well and to have a surgeon who who has done Heller myotomys so many times is a real bonus.

I would be interested to know what tablets and syrup that Bimal has been asked to take for the first 10 days, I was told to take Omexprazol 20mg for te first month.

I was aslo told no carbonated drinks just for the first 8 weeks but seeing before surgery they wouldn't stay down any way I don't miss them. (I don't think I have had a carboated drink fr about two years)

Thats good advice to drink water an hour before food this makes sure that the eosophagus is clear and then a hour after makes sure that the food eaten has had a good chance to get to the stomach and not just sit there.

Please keep us updated on his recovery by the sounds of thing he is doind extremly well.

Best wshed to you both

Dear Bimal, A big welcome home to you. Bet it feels wonderful to know that your hospital stay is now behind you and that you can look forward to a renewed future. This may be a good time to pay tribute to the devotion of your Father in this. From what we can gather on this site, he has been there for you every step of the way. Those of us who have someone to love us that way are so blessed. I wish you every success with your recovery. And stay

off that spicey food for several weeks. PLEASE do not jeopardise your healing. Think bland and boring. If you do that, your life will soon be anything but those two things. Love and best wishes from Ann in England (whose incisions are probably a lot more visible than yours- dark skin is an advantage with this). Mukesh Shah <mukeshshah_fine@...> wrote: Hello..We came
