I pretty much had that operation in 1991, only difference being that my rib cage was spread apart, with a painful recovery. I had the full complement of chest tubes, drainage tubes, etc. Dr. Richter termed my surgery in 1991 as antiquated by today's standards. Dr. Altorki is very highly regarded and you should not just set aside his opinion. Please go to Temple Univ. and see if you can also speak to Dr. Richter the same day you have your consultation with Dr. Dempsey. In a message dated 9/6/2006 10:22:22 A.M.
