Guest guest
Hi Thanks for all the comments. I live in New Zealand and through the special education services is only entitled to 20 minutes therapy a week, he sees an occupational therapist 5 times a term, if I choose to go privately for speech all the teachers aide hours he gets which is 7 1/2 hours a week get taken from him also. We have a funding through the government but he does not meet their criteria. He is not mobility impaired - he has orthotics for his balance, he is not hearing impaired - he has grommets, and he is not vision impaired - he wears glasses! Although he meets the rest of their criteria, he needs the programme changed dramatically for him he needs special learning tools - wider pencils to get easier grip, more time spent understanding his speech, and so on. I have fought so long and so hard for everything he has and now I learn that he has dyspraxia which I thought he had since 3 years old but noone would listen to me - a paranoid mother, he's just lazy, his sister talks for him I suppose you have heard it all before right? I work in an early childhood centre and have taught pre school children for 14 years so I think I would be in the know right? Anyway no more moaning onwards and upwards. I wouldn't change him for the world he has a sense of humour to die for and all the therapists that have worked with him love him to bits. Does anyone know if ProEFA is available in New Zealand? If so where? Take care everyone Michele
