Wow~ This board has been busy! I got to catch up.

Just wanted to give a update on .I have a appointment with a

gastro DR in pediatrics at the Clevland Clinic. Her Name is Dr

Kaplan,She specializes with the " child " end for achalasia and does

the test etc , and then she works in conjuction with DR Rice for

surgery.I heard thats she is great to work with cause of the way DR

Rice bedside manners are.She talks to you and explains things. She

stays on top of Dr Rice and has to remind him that his dealing with

a child and not a adult.

I talked to another mother that dealt with her and DR Rice for her

daughter who has Achalasia(age 12)and she gave me the heads up on

how to deal with all this.Dr Rice had to do a open procedure on her

daughter cause the first was done wrong.(incomplete)Her daughter had

the exact symptoms as .Im glad DR Rice gave me her number to

call her cause she has been a big help with this, having a young

child going through the same thing. She gave me all the in between

info like dealing with this other DR.She said she doesnt know how

she would have done it with DR Rice alone. He hardly talked to her or

her husband! He did make her daughter be able to swallow no problems

now a month later and he was better with her child than with them.

She is HAPPY WITH THE END RESULTS AND HIGHLY RECOMENDED HIM DESPITE

HIS BEDSIDE WAYS! If he can make better I can deal with him

TOO.

HiS CONSULT appointment is on Sept 26.I have to gather all his

barrium test films, medical records, surgical reports to take with

me.Oh Boy,UVA is gonna love me after having to gather all that to go

to another hospital.lol(They will get over it)

I do have a question for you pro's. His old Drs replacement at UVA

called this morning and said he would like to try on taking

the nifediphine capsules on a regular basis to see if that helps the

esophagus relax and make his swallowing better.Should I do this or

just hold off till we go to Cleveland? I have never heard of anyone

here say they do that. Also his nifediphine works awesome at the

onset of a spasm that Im scared that if he takes it daily its not

going to work because he will be like immuned to it.Does that make

sense??

I also wanted to say THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR REPLIES AND ADVICE

FROM MY EARLIER POST!!!So many people replied and I want to Thank

all of you.I really appreciate the support!! THANK YOU!!

(I dont really reply much to other post on here cause I dont have

much advice,or expertise, cause all this is all new to me still.I

hate always asking for advice and not being able to help anyone else

out but I dont have the knowledge too.)

THANKS AGAIN!

Tonia
