Guest guest
Hello, My daughter is 13 and was diagnosed w/A earlier this year, she had the heller myotomy 8 weeks ago. Ever since the surgery her bowels have been messed up, very loose. We pinpointed what seems to be the cause, which is sugary food, candy, cookies, etc. But when your 13 and Mom's on your back it's hard not to indulged, but she's the one that pays the price, sometimes shes not able to make it to the bathroom, which doesn't work real well at school. Anyway, I know this dumping syndrome can be confirmed by a blood test, but does anyone think this may be what she has? Should I just deal with her not eating sugary stuff, or question the Doc's. Any and all advice will be appreciated. Patty in FLa <paulastuhlman@...> wrote: 9 months post op, and this still happens to me on occasion. Guest guest
“People who have dumping syndrome need to eat several small meals a day that are low in carbohydrates and should drink liquids between meals, not with them.” In regards to the above dietary recommendation from the healthlink article for people suffering from this lovely disorder… how about the ones with Rapid or Late Gastric Emptying or “dumping syndrome” ALONG with Achalasia? How would one manage to drink liquids only between meals when liquids are required to wash down food?????? Just wondering…..any alternative suggestions? Guest guest
Thanks Tonia, she's really doing good (back to fighting w/her older brother), but someone here on the board mentioned this dumping syndrome and of course it peeked my curiousity to further my medical knowledge and thought maybe this is what she has. Best of luck with though, from all the adults w/A on this site, I think we're in this for the long haul. Guest guest
EXCELLENT point!! My tummy is 'talking' to me right now, just making all sorts of noises, that are loud, and others can hear, like not too long ago, my boss was looking over my shoulder watching me do something, when my tummy decided to start making all these noises. He is well aware of ALL my lovely problems, just kind of looked at me and said, " really? " It was rather amusing!! Sometimes I have this bubbley feeling in my throat, like the air is escaping somehow. Not really burping, but kind of like little air bubbles trying to escape. it's really strange!! a in St. Louis > > " People who have dumping syndrome need to eat several small meals a day that > are low in carbohydrates and should drink liquids between meals, not with > them. Guest guest
I was wondering the same -- do they call this a dilemma, conundrum or a paradox? Guest guest
Hi Patty, Dumping syndrome usually occurs either immediately after or about an hour after a meal. That was my experience, however I have heard of this happening even later after eating. Is this what she experiences?
