Guest guest
HI everyone I am so confused by my condition and this whole Achalasia thing I can't even begin to explain. I still am not sure if A is my problem but it sure seems that way.. Anyway, I've been reading here and there people talking about "risks" when one does nothing about this condition.. Can someone please tell me what these risks are? My confusion is, a yr ago I had an endoscope done. At the time I was told I had no blockages, no strictures, no narrowing etc. I was however told I have GERD, a Hiatal Hernia, Gastritis, Duodenitis and Esophagitis. My GI doc who I really like at the time couldn't understand why I was having the swallowing problem to the degree I am unless it was the Hernia causing it.. Needless to say my swallowing has gotten somewhat worse over the last year. I am on nothing but soupy foods and liquids and yes I am very very thin. Bone thin. He also told me at the time he did not recommend the operation for the Hernia because he said I could end up coming out worse. He actually didn't recommend anything except the protonix I'm on which I think in the last few weeks is not working as well anymore as I"m having a very difficult time with reflux now which I didn't feel before. I also have underlying illness which is inflammitory in nature and so I"m also not sure if my swallowing problems are coming from that in adjunction to the other condition or it's causing it by itself and the doctors here in SC are clueless.. SO you see I feel like my back is up against the wall and I don't know WHAT way to go with this. My GI at the time said he would like me to have a 24 hr ph probe and a manometry both of which I know I would not be able to get through mostly in part because of my severe panic disorder. I take an ativan once at night to sleep and once in the afternoon to nap. It seems the ativan relaxes everything in my throat and the lump goes away, the throat spasms go away and I am able to swallow my "soupy" food better when I awake. It does get rough after a few minutes of eating but I am able to atleast get it down. My problem with all this is, if I go for the wrap surgery and it turns out NOT to be because of the hiatal hernia and they make my LES even more tighter I will be beyond screwed if they make my LES looser thinking its achlasia and it's not I'll be screwed there too.. I don't know which way to go with this... Thanks for any info.. Like my Tags? Join my group! RobynsTagDesigns Like my Stats? Join my Group! RobynsStationary Check out my blogs!
