Guest guest
Steve, How does the Lansoprazole help you? Commonly taken for GERD, are you taking it for acid reflux, and I'll have to presume you take it on a daily basis. My wife has been taking Prevacid for years, so I'm somewhat familiar with the family of PPI's. Just checking, I found the following: "What are the possible side effects of lansoprazole? • Serious side effects from lansoprazole are not common. Stop taking lansoprazole and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). • Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take lansoprazole and talk to your doctor if you experience · diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain; · dizziness; or · headache. • Side effects other than those listed here may also occur." You previously wrote: "It doesn't stop me going about my day but it does feel like I am in danger of passing out (but I never do). And the website said above: dizzyness Steve, I know it might be a stretch, and even if this is not the reason, there must be some reason causing your problems. You should try one by one eliminating different things that could possibly be causing it. Easier said than done, of course. Good luck Steve. In a message dated 8/6/2006 6:50:27 P.M. A rather daft question this but does anyone get a "feeling strange" feeling that is associated with their achalasia? The best I can describe it is that feeling you get when you get out of a bath and the water was too hot. Only it lasts all day. I initially thought it was blood sugar related with the oesophagus holding onto food and then letting it through but I have kept an eye on my blood sugars and whilst I do get a bit of dumping it does not seem to be related. I usually only get it when my swallowing is bad. I have spoken to the doctors who have said it is probably related to achalasia but can not offer an explanation. Does anyone else get this as it is driving me nuts (I have had it for two days running this weekend). Guest guest
Thanks all, It seems a few people have low blood pressure but it does not appear to have a direct correlation to the achalasia. I have recorded my blood sugar before and after food and I do get dumping but I now know the lightheadedness is not connected to it. Don't forget I have end stage achalasia and heading for the oesophagectomy so I am wondering if it is connected to vegal stimulation as my oesophagus is SO SO LARGE. It does seem to only occur when my swallowing is bad. Maybe it is fluid intake related (thanks for that, I will keep an eye on my fluids). And thanks Carolyn, I have not been able to eat at Macs for ages but the thought has just made me real hungry (and i'm vegetarian). One other question now folks (sometimes I feel I am physically falling apart). Does anyones bowels clunck? Now I know this seems odd. But this is also new. Again, I was wondering if it is related to dumping. I know that us achalasians can have sluggish bowels as there is a relationship between achalasia and slow bowels. But, this clunking is new. My food seems to thump its way through. This is not alarming me (and is nothing compared to the lightneadedness) but I was wondering if anyone else knew what I was talking about. This is not normal bowel sounds I am well familiar with them. STEVE Re: Queswtion about just simply feeling strange I am wondering, Steve, if this feeling strange is associated with nighttime coughing and aspiration. When I was coughing at night, occassionally I would aspirate a bit of saliva or stuff and then have a low grade fever for a day or two.Just an idea,Peggy>> Hello everyone.> > A rather daft question this but does anyone get a "feeling strange" feeling that is associated with their achalasia?> > The best I can describe it is that feeling you get when you get out of a bath and the water was too hot. Guest guest
hey Steve - it's probably not funny but the idea of bowels 'clunking' just made me laugh - I just keep 'hearing' a sound like the bars on a jail cell slamming shut. Shouldn't laugh but you know how sometimes you just have to anyway. Anyway - in regards to your lightheadedness, what I find happens if I do have trouble swallowing something - usually happens with raw carrots, is that I strain to breathe for a minute and then when I feel the food and everything push through, my heart kind of races for a bit (30 seconds to a minute) like I've had a shot of adrenaline. What my theory is (and maybe this applies to you the same way) is that when I have a lot of food in my E, it compresses my heart, lungs, blood vessels etc so that when my 'power swallow' goes through, my heart races a bit to catch up. Does that make sense? Maybe a similar kind of thing is happening to you?? Guest guest
, Aha. I have had this too. The heart racing thing was the thing that took me to the doctor (well emergency room actually) in February. I have since had investigation after investigation and my surgeon thinks my oesophagus has stuck to the wall of my heart. This means that when I get food stuck it is rubbing right next to the cells that fire off the heart beat. My heart is totally normal and I have been told by a cardiologist (as I was referred to him initially) that this is not unusual and is not restricted to achalasia. It freaked me out for a while but now I am used to it. So that doesn't explain the light headedness either. But nice to know someone out there has heart issues with their achalasia too. We certainly have a very interesting disease. Never a dull moment! As for the clunking. No problem with you laughing as it makes me laugh and it is extremely loud so more like jail bars exploding open.
