Guest guest
When we met with Dr. Rice, he said he would do the Dor fundoplication with just three stitches: one at the top and one on each side. He said it tends to get too tight otherwise. Has anyone else heard about this? I wonder if it's something new. I did some googling about fundoplication techniques, and in every article I found that described the stitches, there are several stitches on each side and a couple of stitches at the top. Just thinking about it in terms of sewing, I imagine that the three-stitch technique might put more stress on the stomach at those points, and maybe on the esophagus too. And perhaps it does not control reflux quite as well. Of course, the most important thing is to keep the esophagus emptying properly. Dr. Rice is very experienced, and if he thinks it's necessary to only use three stitches, I tend to trust his judgment. I just wonder if anyone else has heard about a three-stitch fundoplication. Any of Dr. Rice's patients? in PA (My 15-year-old son is scheduled for surgery with Dr. Rice next Wednesday, July 19)
