Guest guest
Tomorrow it will be 3 weeks since I had my lap. cardiomyotomy with wrap. Seems like a good time to report on my progress, in the hope it will give others at this stage some insight. Diet I am sticking to the letter to my mushy diet regime. I think it is easy for me because it is Summer here and you do not feel the urge to eat great big beefy meals anyway. I have been eating weetabix or porridge for breakfast, always with full fat milk. The dietician said I need the energy. I don't know what brands are available in other countries so if I talk about anything you do not recognise, ask me for a description. Lunch-time has been soup, either Heinz condensed soup made up with milk or home-made ones like broccoli, carrot and coriander, mushroom etc. cooked and smashed up to beggary in the liquidiser. Plus a dessert of some description - rice pudding, custard, yogurt, smoothies, tinned fruit with cream, jelly, ice cream, bananas well mashed, greek yogurt with honey. Evening Meal (big title for such a casual event): The most ambitious thing I have had so far was a casserole cooked in the slow cooker ( calls it a crookpot if that makes more sense to you). My Husband ate it as a normal meal and mine went in to the trusty liquidiser with extra stock, so that it became a fortified beef and vegetable soup. Mashed potato with cream cheese and gravy, mashed sweet potato, scrambled egg ( the only thing so far I have been aware of lack of peristalsis with) fish in sauce, strictly boneless. The majority of the protein in my diet is coming from dairy products. Should I worry about cholesterol levels? I am also drinking lots of fluids, especially water. I have invested in a water filter jug for the fridge and the difference it makes to the taste is amazing and certainly encourages me to drink far more water and less tea (unbelievable). Incisions- Are you bored with this yet? (lol) I am amazed by how well my incisions have healed. I have no surgical glue left at all and the ones that were covered by it look like paper cuts. The only stitched one looks very clean and very titchy. I have been having a daily bath with a capful of 'Dettol' in the water along with my normal bubble bath. It makes the bathroom smell really fresh and clean but the smell does not seem to linger on me, I am glad to say. I think this is the reason though, for the rapid healing. Well-being : This has got to be the most surprising thing of all. I actually feel FAR better than I did before my surgery. I was expecting to be lethargic and struggling to get well for a while, but, apart from my lifting abilities, with which I am still being very careful, I am feeling SO WELL. My unofficial second daughter (don't ask, long story) came up with what I think may be the explanation. She said: 'For many years you have been getting food stuck in the O, it has been rotting there and dripping over DAYS into the stomach, by which time the nutrients are severly depleted. Now the food is going into your stomach and fresh vitamins and nutrients are nourishing your body and bringing more oxygen to your brain". I always knew that Becky was crazy. That is why I love her so much, but I did not realise how intelligent she could be about this disease until then. For those of you who had already worked this theory out, sorry to sound like it is a eureka moment for me, but why didn't you tell me? (lol) I have been filling my diary up like a maniac and communicating with friends like never before in such a long time. My feeling of being reborn persists. I hope it never ends. Must go now to worship at the feet of my Surgeon. Lots of love and good prospects to everyone, from Ann in England xxx
