Guest guest
Has anyone tried Boost or Ensure when you are unable to eat? I know I am not getting enough nutrition and my dilation isn't scheduled until the 25th. I have Boost in the refrigerator but just haven't been able to bring myself to try it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Kathy
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I didn't try this, but a friend told me about this drink called Odwalla. you can buy it in some coffee houses or health food stores. There is one called liquid food, or something like that, so it's supposed to be packed with all the good stuff for you. You may also want to try a smoothie shop. Alot of those places can add vitamin boosters. I still go to Smoothie King a few times a week for lunch, and I had surgery over 6 months ago! One more thing to try is a chewable vitamin. I have always had trouble with vitamins, I found that Centrum makes a chewable vitamin for adults!! After and right before surgery when I really wasn't eating much, I would take one in the morning and one at night, was probably overkill, but I figured I wasn't getting much from all the Jello I was eating!!! you may want to compare the vitamins and minerals in Carnation instant breakfast or even slim fast shakes to the boost and ensure. I know that the instant breakfast and slim fast are VERY close. I hope this helps! a in St. Louis:) > > Has anyone tried Boost or Ensure when you are unable to eat? Guest guest
I haven't been able to swallow vitimins for years, looking back, I now realize that was the first sign of the achalasia coming on. I used ensure the last few months before my surgery, but I was still overweight and I didn't like all the fat and calories in ensure, so I'd use slimfast instead, but, I'm a bit lactose intolerant so the slimfast always made me a bit nausous. Also very important is liquid vitimins. I get mine at costco, or the health food store, get a good one. I pay $15-30 for a 30 day supply. I suggest you go to the local health food store and talk to them about using fruit extracts called magosteen, noni, and goji. Even after surgery I still use all three. Someone else here, sorry, forgot the name was extolling the virtues of Noni. I also swear by liquid alo vera, I drink several ounces everyday. I started drinking Alo vera pre surgery because I thought it would help protect my E from all the food issues, then I found out it has nutrients and amino acids we need, so I kept it up. One draw back is all this stuff has to be refrigerated after opening, so the 'fridge has a section just for all my stuff. Good luck > > Has anyone tried Boost or Ensure when you are unable to eat? Guest guest
It is called Superfood. I have used that too. Superfood (and its price)inspired me to buy a vita mix 3600, an old 1970s stainless steel blender with a spiget on the front and I started making my own " superfood " by making a connection of what green veggies I could find. I make a mix of cabbage, kale broccerly (sp?)apple juice, whatever. The superfood does have spyrolina and other stuff, but my mix is pretty healty too. Odwalla also makes a bunch of other quality juices. > > Hi Kathy, > > I didn't try this, but a friend told me about this drink called > Odwalla. you can buy it in some coffee houses or health food stores. > There is one called liquid food, or something like that, so it's > supposed to be packed with all the good stuff for you. Guest guest
Ensure doesn't taste all that bad Now nothing like having a Hot Dog with sauerkraut and mustard Now slimfast to me taste tinny I live on Ensure drink up to 4 a day -- Re: Liquid Supplements Hi Kathy, I'm sorry to hear how difficult this has been for you. In reading old posts, I can tell you that many people used Ensure as their lifeline. I can't tell you how it tastes, but when it comes down to choices, your choice is "life." Regardless of the taste, your nourishment comes first. Hang in there, just 10 days to go. In a message dated 5/15/2006 9:35:01 A.M. Guest guest
My GP and dietitian suggested taking Complan in a glass of full cream milk. To help me regain the excessive lost weight, I also add a teaspoonful of double cream to it and that has made a lot of difference. I also add a couple of teaspoons of fortified skimmed milk powder (like Marvel) to it to get an extra amount of nutrients. I've gained enough weight and strength in last 3-4 months and my surgeon says am ready for mytomy now :-). I ma seeing my surgeon on the 24th and hopefully they'll give me a date for surgery in July. I usually have trouble getting cold liquids down. So I tend to take home-made soups to get the extra nutrition I need. I keep trying different combinations of seasonal vegetables to make my soup. It maintains a nutritional balance and gives me a variety too.. lol. You can add any vegetables - carrots, tomatoes, beetroot, spinach, broccoli, celery... or anything of your choice. (PS I am a vegetarian, so have to rely on these things only). Boil them all together, blend them into a blender with a small amount of water, strain it, bring it to a boil in a saucepan & its ready :-) Add butter/cream to it to get extra calories. If you can manage to get cold liquids down your E, then you can also try home-made smoothies with different combinations of seasonal fruits. Happy drinking !! :0) Love from Preeti in Hampshire > > > > Has anyone tried Boost or Ensure when you are unable to eat?
