Hannah, welcome to the group. We are glad you have found this group. Take some time and try and read some of the old posts. That should give you an idea of some of what has been talked about recently. Olga just put her story in the file section on the group site so you might want to look for it there. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. How are you doing after the surgery? Are you eating better?

Once again welcome to the group and I hope you are feeling better.

-Hello Hannah,

I have been off the group for a while. Good to hear you are doing well

now. As I had said once before I am from Australia. Definitely closer

than many. What area are you from. I may be in Rotorura in August, is

it any where near you?

How is the eating going for you? It's like having a new freedom after

surgery.

All the best recovering

Hi ,

It seems most on the board are North American. Nice to hear from some

one a little more local.

I am enjoying food more now, food became a phobia for a while there,

scared to go out or eat in front of people. So embarassing.

I was surprised at how crap I felt after the surgery, I am still on

silly amounts of meds and am trying to cut down on them.

I take Nefedipine (Angina Medication) to stop the E spasms, seems to

work, but I feel rather lowly all the time.

How about you. Are you happy with your surgery?

Thanks, I am doing much better, but the 10 days in hospital were

grim, the docs kept saying how successfull ot all was but it was a week

before a dared to touch food, still on mush even now, a month later.

Developed a food phobia I think... getting over it though, the

cravings are coming back.

The other messages make me nervous that it is not over as the docs say

it is, I fear I will be coming back for a repeat surgery in the

futureas Iam 24 and things will move around cme pregnancy ang weight gain.

Thanks for the welcome,

-Hi Hannah,

I have no regrets. I still have trouble with some foods and just

avoid them. Need help with fluids. I had a lot a trouble with spasms

after surgery. They were unbearable to begin with. I still get them

now in varing forms but manage much better. I think it was Vicki

described the aching chest thing really well a few days ago.

I asked my surgeon just recently, but he could not help shed more

light on it. Good news is that he said there is more research now

going into the spasms as to why they happen etc. My doctors have not

giving me any medications for them accept buscopan which relaxes the

smooth tissues.

I have another condition that gives me high plateletts in the blood,

which in turns makes it thicker, so all these meds drops your blood

pressure quickly. Not a good combination I must say. I drink water of

have camomile tea and hope they go away quick.

Eating out is something I have started enjoying again. I dreaded it

before surgery and our friends (my husband included) loved to get a

meal out. It was just stressful. You will look forward to it soon to.

-Hannah,

Don't rush back into eating solid foods too quick. Right now you have

an E with muscles cut off it and has not got used to not having the

support. My surgeon said it takes 3 months for it to fully recover.

You should be on a pureed food diet and work into soft foods slowly.

A perforation of the E means more surgery and a longer recovery.

I still had what my family ate, but separated each food and put it

through a hand held musher thingy with extra liquid.

Quoting hanafem21 <hanafem21@...>:

Hi Hannah,

My name is Kim, I live in Dunedin and have been posting on this board for

the past 3 years.

I had my lap myotomy in 2003. Down here in Dunedin. My surgeon had only

performed the surgery on two others before me. So it was all a bit risky.

Especially when you read all the american posts on here that tell you not

to have it performed by anyone who has done less than 100,,,,,

Well that is never going to happen in NZ.

I will write more later Hannah, but having just given birth to my second

child two days ago, I am much in need of some rest.

I will be in touch once I find my feet again.

Please feel free to share you story with me, I'd love to hear how it all

came about for you.

Take care

Hi Kim,

Congratulations on your birth. How exciting. Rest away. I will

contact you on the board later. I am getting better and had my first

day back at work today so things are progressing.

Yours,

Hannah
