Guest guest
Dr. Rice did my open myotomy! He is a very straight forward man!! But will answer any and all questions, remember to write them down!!!!!! I will be up there on May 12th for a check up, having a few problems again. My situation was a little out of the ordinary but very happy with my results!!! I had my surgery in 2002, I have been back for 1 stretch since then. I go about once every 2 years, because of my progression of the disease and my age. I’m now 35 and I’ve had 2 surgeries and about 10 stretches. But only once since Dr. Rice. My hospital stay was long 9 days!! But I had an open procedure. If you have any questions you can email me direct I would be more then happy to talk to you about it. in Indiana From: achalasia [mailto:achalasia ] On Behalf Of mommalay3 Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2006 2:53 PM achalasia Subject: Surgery consult I just made an appointment with Dr. Rice of the Cleveland Clinic for my surgery (laparoscopic heller myotomy) consult. Does anyone have experience with Dr. Rice they'd be willing to share? If he did your surgery, were you happy with him? How is he to talk to? Does he take the time to explain and answer questions? Any idea how long it typically takes to have your surgery scheduled? What type of pre-op testing is there? I've already had the barium x-rays, the EGD, and the manometry (yuck...). How long are you in the hospital and then off work? Lots of questions! Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi ! I think that we have emailed before. Dr. Rice was my surgeon. He is wonderful, informative and knowledgable. He is very qualified. My heller was open. In '93. My pretests were about all the same. I had a chest xray too. I was in the hospital about 6 days. I recovered at home for about 2 weeks. Pain was mostly rib and chest tube pain so you will probably not have that. I am glad that you decided to go this route. I don't think that you will regret it. I can't remember the scheduling stuff...but it seems to come up faster than you are ready for anyhow. Good Luck and Email me off the boards. I am really excited for you!!!
