Guest guest
Hey All - I googled achalasia+gall bladder yesterday and did find a very interesting study done in Italy. It was very small scale but they did find that several of the people with A also had slowed gall bladder emptying, causing stones and gall bladder attacks. The belief of these doctors is that there is some correlation. I would encourage anyone who is having increased pain, with vomiting/nausea, lasting for several hours to have their GB checked. You can have an ultrasound to check for stones - I had mine done at the same time I had my last barium swallow so it wasn't even an extra appointment for me. The thing is - for me - the pain felt like spasms so I suffered through the attacks for YEARS without knowing it was something else. Since my GB removal in July of last year, I have had almost NO spasms and the few that I've had have been MUCH more livable. I can actually work and function through them. I hope this is not too repetitive but if it helps at least 1 or a handful of people then that's the point isnt' it? Gall bladder attacks - the 5 F's Female Forty Fair Family (i've also heard fertile as it's VERY common during/after pregnancy) Fat (again, pregnancy because of the weight gain? - I also wonder if maybe we could be predisposed because of weight fluxuations pre/post op??) Not that that is a guarantee but if you fall into these categories - I'd question it. Happy Swallowing! - in Va.
