Guest guest
I had a Heller's op in 2000 with a wrap - and it was great to get my life back. Since the op I have been able to sleep normally (only a very rare unconcious projection in the night!) but have continued to have problems eating. I am told that approx 8 out 10 times op is fully successful 2 out of 10 times it is not - unlucky me. The deterioration in my eating has been gradual but has now become a problem almost every day , there is no pattern. I try to compensate for the bad days ( when I eat /drink very little) by 'pigging out' on the good days ! My weight is now reducing again and this has a knock on effect with energy levels, quality of life etc. ANY IDEAS on how to improve my situation would be welcome. Thanks PAUL , Have you been back to your GP and talked about this? You might want to concider looking into a balloon dilation or even talking to a GI doctor over what is going on. in Suffolk

Guest guest
, I can relate to your story. I have been in trouble for the past six weeks. I had my myotomy 13 years ago and this attack was a complete shock. I got so bad I had to be admitted to hospital for IV fluids as I couldn't get anything down at all for 48 hours. I came out last Friday. I think all you can do is to go back to a gastroenterologist for advice. I have had some Botox which is at least allowing me to get some fluid (and a little food) through whilst we plan a strategy. I am going to see an Upper GI surgeon as I clearly can not continue like this. I think you need medical assistance with this one. Guest guest
Quoting Steve Lennox <lennoxsteve@...>: Hi and Steve; I too can relate to both your situations. I had myotomy surgery with partial wrap nearly 3 years ago. Have since had one child and due for number two in a couple of weeks. Inbetween my pregnancies I have felt things were reverting. I saw my GI specialist, but as I was already pregnant they didn't want to do anything until I had delivered. After delivery of this baby they want to do another barium swallow and check things out and then a scope to check scar tissue. My GI said he probably wouldn't do another dilation, I had two before surgery. But he would try perhaps some drug therapy firstly. Not sure what type? He mentioned also, that sometimes muscles further up the eosphagus start to collapse also, myotomy extended up the E can help eleviate this. I have read this on the board also, that it is not uncommon to have your orginal myotomy extended at a later date. However if going to this length, it doesn't leave many options later. Only eosphagectmy ?spl But I agree, you need to see your specialist. Perhaps some botux in the interim would be beneficial. I have never had this treatment, but it seems to be helpful for others here. I think if it wasn't for my growing baby I would have been loosing weight by now too. I have only gained 5 kgs, and only have a couple of weeks left of this pregnancy. Baby is doing fine apparently, but I am being sick with nearly everything I eat. Living on complan type drinks just to keep up the energy I need to run around after my 20month old. Well I hope this helps, keep up the fluids, and let us know how you get on. I am sure there would be many here that would be interested to know. Take care Kim in NZ > , > > I can relate to your story. I have been in trouble for the past six > weeks. Guest guest
Hi Kim, keep counting down you are doing well. I think the hope that you are near the end of the pregnancy and you can look forward to getting it looked at will be your driving positive. Also that healthy baby delivered. We will be thinking of you and hoping you hold in there. A is bad enough to deal with but even harder with pregnancy. I was terrible with pregnancy and didn't have A at the time (maybe).I didn't keep anything down for 9 months. What part of NZ are you? I may be there in August, I will have to check where my destination will be. Regards in Australia > > I had a Heller's op in 2000 with a wrap - and it was great to get > > my > > life back.
